Hello there.

I'm a 24-year-old student (actually taking a one year break from studies to do my civil service) from Pori, Finland. I was suggested I may have AS (which was later diagnosed) roughly half a year ago while I was receiving treatment for depression. (Still receiving, although I'm a lot better now.) Anyway, been sort of an on-off-lurker since, until now.

Into music. Very much. Particularly industrial, noise and other experimental/fringe and sometimes harsh electronic music. Also been doing electronic music myself for about ten years. Also, to some extent, more generally interested in culture and the arts; lucky enough to be fulfilling my civil service at a local theatre.

I'm not very good at ending self-descriptions.

Sivil service is so cool. Just wondering; are you against the military because alot of people I have met are and they refused to do the military service. Or maybe I got it wrong.

I'm a bit more ambiguous about the military than some of my fellow civilservicemen, actually. What I am completely certain about, though, is that I'm doing much more of a service both to myself and the community by working among the community than I would trying to grasp the purpose of some routines and protocols which to me are just mind crushing, freezing to death at some camp somewhere and generally being indoctrinated and trained to do something that goes so much against my very person that I couldn't even be proficient at it.

I actually was in the military for five days, I have to admit. I would have probably literally become insane if I'd spent any more time there.

i wouldn't go in the military now if i was young enough (i'm probably too old now), 'cause i don't want them to send my ass off to a war that makes no sense..

Ideally, I would have joined the Marines and gone into their marching band if I was in the physical condition for it. Once I have my MCSE and Security+ computer certs, I'm going to consider joining the Air Force and maybe do electronic intelligence stuff. Maybe I could resolve some of my issues with authority that way too. I wouldn't have a problem fighting in the war on terror (Iraq included), but would have a major problem serving in any U.N. operation (personally, I'd like bush to attack the U.N. next).

I honestly think the 'military' is a good idea, but not war itself. The military in the UK does many other jobs, including covering during firefighters strikes and so on.

As my dad remarked "We have covered when the bin men went on strike, the firefighters went on strike and the street sweepers went on strike. If the prostitutes go on strike, your on your own." :P
