Hi just joined and have undiagnosed aspergers, i have gone through life with very little social skills, unable to strike up a conversation and have no idea what to say to people, i zone out when others are talking about other stuff and dont feel able to join in, i have no friends not even online, i often end up saying the wrong thing.

It has now come to a point that i need to get my aspergers diagnosed and get support or at least try to, my son has recently been diagnosed with autism and its only after researching the condition that i realise that im on the spectrum too, i scored 43/50 on aq tests online.

Hi, nice to meet you.

It's very common for other family members to first realise that they relate strongly to autism when a younger family member (often their child) is diagnosed. My dad had a very similar realisation, but has decided he has nothing to gain from diagnosis (self or professional).

I'm not au fait with the diagnostic pathways in Scotland, but adult diagnosis in England can be a nightmare, and I can't imagine Scotland is any better! I wish you luck with it.

I realized I had aspergers when my daughter was diagnosed 6 years ago.
At first I did not want to go for an evaluation, but I have a lot of anxiety issues, exasperbated by the Aspergers. I started going to therapy for the anxiety and taking lexipro, but the therapist was not really taking the Apergers into account and the medicine was not right for me. So I was weined off Lexipro and left that therapist but it took 3-4 months to get an appointment for an evaluation and then I got a new therapist.
Things are better now. I took a demotion at work to try to have less stress (I was a manager with "people" issues and now I can concentrate on accounting) and I am going to try a different medicine.

I hope we can help you here at WP.
