Hi I'm 46. My mother was horrified when the Sunday school teacher asked her if I ever talked. Am still angry about all the family gatherings where all my well trained female cousins had a chance to shine and I would stand there silent feeling so ashamed and red faced as my brothers would tell everyone how shy I was and how I still sucked my thumb and my father would not even try to hide his disgust at the large gap in social capability between them and me. Oh well. I'm not sure if I have Aspergers, but have always resonated with descriptions of Autism - thinking I might have a mild case of it. A recent psycho-educational assessment revealed slow non-verbal processing and tremendous sub-test scatter, consistent with a learning disability. I needed this to fight off a hostile new manager. I have to say I just can't help loving being alone and still and daydreaming -don't try to convince me that I am doing anything wrong.

I am also relatively silent and when younger wouldn't talk. Oh I could, but to communicate on such a level of stupidity was just beyond me. No one understood what I was saying so it was useless and I'd just get angry. Like Kilroy said too, some like it this way.

Welcome. I'm fairly new, too.

I sucked my thumb until I was 11 years old , and then I wore braces for 5 years. I was also "painfully shy" as my mother liked to call me. It's true, though...it is painful.
