Hey...

Not quite sure what to say. 23, from Texas but currently living with my parents in Serbia (they are missionaries, I'm an atheist... fun times... /sarcasm> )

I have gone through a wide variety of treatments and had diagnoses for various mental disorders... which I'm sure are accurate... but they don't answer everything.

Came across a description of female aspergers (yes, I know it is now called high functioning autism), and it was like I was reading an in depth description of myself both currently and as a child... everything.

Can't get a professional diagnosis until I can move back to the US in 6-10 months... but in the meantime... wanting to learn more, talk to people about my struggles, and maybe get some solutions for things I can do to help make life easier... :/

So... yeah. Hey there.

Hi there,

I'm also new; both to wrong planet and to a diagnosis. I have to say I'm liking both and I never really thought I'd like the diagnosis having spent so many years trying to fit in and be normal. Honestly though having the diagnosis feels like coming home, it's a relief and it feels right, comfortable somehow.

I can't provide any solutions to make life easier yet, I'm still working on those myself, although giving myself permission to use headphones and sunglasses whenever I need them has helped with some sensory issues.

This is a good place for information and stuff.

Welcome

Thanks.

Not quite sure which forum topic to start in... :/ I'll probably just float and read for a while... I don't know.

I've always been heavily into dogs... right now my focus is primarily on service dogs and protection type working dogs...

I dunno... I also like arts and crafts types of things... I'm actually in the process of making a coloring book about service dogs...

Welcome to WP.

I find myself wondering what Serbian sounds like with a Texan accent.

Lol... I actually grew up here (parents moved here with me and my brothers when I was 8), so I don't have much of the accent... I mean... I don't have much of either a Texan or a Serbian accent... but my parents have teammates (missionary term for coworkers) who do have the strong southern accent when speaking... and yeah... it's interesting. :p

Are you able to speak and write Serbian? Serbian, I believe is written in the Cyrillic alphabet.

Serbian is actually weird in that they use both a latinic and cyrillic alphabet. I can both read and write both and am "fluent" in my speech... though not necessarily grammatically correct. :p If that makes any sense.

Makes lots of sense.

It is very rare for a person to be technically "grammatically correct" when they are talking to somebody in the street. This occurs more often in a person's writing. If a person speaks so precise, they are usually thought of as being "weird."

Speaking in the vernacular frequently features grammatical "errors" and many omissions of sounds. Comprehension of what a person says frequently is dependent upon context.
