just a quick intro for now as I'm at work, discovering this site has led me to sort out getting online at home but I haven't done it yet, I'll post longer stuff then but I can't tell you how happy I am to be here

I'm a 43 year old male from manchester UK and this asperger thing has basically made sense of the last 40 years of my life for me which I've experienced as like running to jump on to a carousel but never managing to get on a horse and watching everyone else sailing past like its the best thing in the world but now I know why

my 'obsession' is religion and spirituality - I was a Buddhist for many years then converted to Islam and I haved been devoted to Sufism for the past 3 years or so especially Rumi (hence the nickname), whirling dervishes, Turkish music and culture etc. I'm a musician, (guitar, mandolin, saz) and write songs ( mild to moderate Tim Buckley obsession)
also an artist and writer and generally anything creative is my thing

I'm terminally single, having serially messed up relationships for the past 25 years (not to mention messing up people's heads who've made the mistake of trying to get close to me) although I have a 7 year old daughter from one relationship, and basically spend all my time alone when I'm not at work as I have no real friends or anything resembling a social life. Am I an Aspie? - I think so but who cares about labels eh, you are my people and its so good to meet you at last

Welcome Rumio,

I am in your age group, too! We have similar interests as spirituality is very important to me. I've read a bit of Rumi but lean more towards the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads of Hinduism to balance my fundamentalist Christian upbringing. I like exploring what they all have in common--treating folks right for a better world, etc. All roads lead to an enhanced experience in this life.

Musically, I play Sitar, Tabla, Electric Bass and Trumpet.

I live on the boarder of West Texas/New Mexico/Chihuahua, Mexico.

Enjoy Wrong Planet! The inhabitants are cool people, I think and you may think so, too.

Hmmmmm? Such a wide selection of religion
switches? What greater value did you gain
from seeing different perspective in your
lifetime? :P

And Hi! Welcome to WrongPlanet.Net.

Sincerely,

thanks guys, good to be here.

Ghosthunter - its not such a wide range really, when I say Sufism for me that's Islam and Islam means Sufism so really I only switched once ie from Buddhism to Islam and that to me was like moving from my head into my heart. I think Buddhism and Buddhists can tend to pretty cerebral and 'out of body' at times which looking back perhaps makes it attractive to an Aspie but I never really felt connected to it all even though I did it for quite a long time. By the way I reckon the Buddha was dead cert for an aspie - leaving his wife and family, dropping out, going against the mainstream norms of the time, strong personal vision, lots of solitude etc etc but there's another forum for this sort of stuff isn't there so I'll leave it there for now.

Hmmmm? What were the differences?

This is why metaphysical studies, wicca studies
probly intrigued me as well. Any thoughts on
this?

Not so! wrote:

People tend to talk on christanity, but that
is not where my metherial heart and mind
percieves. I believe god exists, but not
in such a absolute fashion. I find your views
allow me more expression on alternative views
on the god and goddess aspects of god in general.
Hmmmm? I hope to hear your views. I have
studied wicca, some shaminism, ect... to better
understand myself. This seems to click more
into how you may see religion due to etherial
perspective(out of body) and metherial perspective
(in body, but mind perceptively out of time and
space of the absolute singular perspective).

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter
