....so, apparently this is my planet, and has been for some time. I was diagnosed as autistic last month, aged 35. It's something I'd considered as being a possibility for a few years, but knowing for sure feels different somehow. Hoping to make that a good thing. Like some other late-diagnosed folks on here, I've been treated for anxiety and depression for ages but was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle.
I live in York (the original one) and work at the same part-time cleaning job I had when my PhD fell apart on me ten years ago. (In retrospect, a subject involving anthropological fieldwork wasn't the best choice.) I am also a hemi-demi-semi-professional musician. What little social life I have mainly revolves around music. I love reading, especially science fiction and fantasy- in the last couple of years, I've even ventured out to SF conventions. Small ones.
Looking forwards to getting to know others of my species!

Thanks for the welcome! cathylynn- I'm mainly a singer-songwriter these days, so voice, acoustic guitar and bass guitar. Started out trying to be a classical pianist, which I no longer do where people can hear....

Hey there,

Nice to meet you. Have you read any Phillip K Dick? Counter-Clock World was excellent and of course, Blade Runner (i.e. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - a title I much prefer). Do you have any favourite authors?

Kafka on the Shore - Funnily enough, I'm a big Haruki Murakami fan.... Philip K Dick is amazing, but the atmosphere of paranoia is a bit much for me these days. Been reading Charles Stross a lot lately.
