I am mom to Noah (10) AS and I found this forum today- It just seems to have an "energy" or feeling about it that I don't get from other message boards I'm on. My son is gifted, has NVLD and is not on medication. He's a really great kid with an insatiable thirst for facts and knowlege- He can be social in his Aspie sort of way but as he says "I only do it because you force me to"!
I started homeschooling him in September- he was in public school for 4 years (3 years was good- 1 was bad) and for many reasons decided to try homeschooling. I have always been a SAHM/work at night or when he's in school mom and we are used to having only 1 1/4 income! It has been a challenge but the freedom it has given us is indescribable.
Can't wait to read more of these posts!

Welcome! We are parents of three daughters, our eldest (13 yo) has a AS diagnosis, one NT and one somewhere in between. We have been homeschooling our eldest daughter for the past two years, after being at a private school for 6 years (K-5). Best move we have made and we have decided to homeschool all three next year. Our AS daughter is much more relaxed and has far fewer GI complaints since moving to homeschooling. Plus we are able to focus on ADL issues as well as academics.

We look forward to sharing thoughts.

Hi,

I have just found this forum today, so that explains the Newbie.

My son was diagnosed with Aspergers at age 8 (Now 12) so that explains the Not Newbie, although by the age of around 3-4 I felt there was something different about him. I just could not explain what.

We have been home educating for three years now and NEVER look back. We also took our older daughter out of State Education last year despite her excellent reports. She is also doing much better in many other aspects of life now.

I agree with the part about "Freedom". From teachers, systems, the hassles of homework, getting ready on time and all those other petty little things that add sooooooo much stress to "Family" life and don't even come into the part of "Education". School left us with a nasty bitter aftertaste that won't wash and even after three years, the mention of school still turns Matthews face into a bitter twisted expression that clearly shows that the damage done is irrepairable and putting him back in is not an option.

Here's to home education!

Regards Kay from UK.

P.S. It's still Monday Evening here! Your posts are dated for tomorrow 8th May!

I read with much interest what you had to say about home schooling. As well as the comments from another. Welcome.

That means you BlueSwan  , welcome to you as well.
