Hi folks,
I'm new here. I found the site by chance, having seen it mentioned in a home-study course book on 'Understanding Autism'.
I was finally diagnosed with Asperger's last year, aged 56, after many years of problems with depression and anxiety... and many more years before that of difficulties in just about every aspect of life: school, work, social situations. The diagnosis has finally helped me to make some sense of my life: to fit the pieces together.
I work in care, with young people with learning disabilities. Naturally, I have a lot of identification with them - as I do with all vulnerable people in society. These are my 'natural' people. Most of the NTs around me don't 'get' me, or don't seem to want to listen to me. It used to bother me a great deal that I could never make friends, understand social signals, etc. Now, though... I'm much more comfortable with myself.
Anyway... it's great to be here! I look forward to seeing you all around.
Best wishes,
Tom
