Hi, I'm Phil. 30-something recently "diagnosed" with AS. I say "diagnosed" because it hasn't actually been confirmed yet - I am to go for the tests when I return to Ireland. My own doc said I "probably" had AS but with the all the research I had done, I probably knew more than he did about it. Ho hum - at least he was honest lol.
I'm from Belfast in Ireland but travelling the world at the minute - recently packed in my job and by coincidence was selling my house around the same time, so now doing what I always wanted to do. A fantastic experience so far, a few tricky situations notwithstanding. I've done pretty ok so far in life - after royally messing up my A-Levels, I managed to carve a career with decent money talking sh*ite in a job where no-one talks back!
This has been in my mind for quite a few years - feeling like a square peg while the world is a round hole - y'know! The wave of relief which has washed over me, as a diagnosis for AS has moved from possible to fairly definite, has been profound. It's like I have finally "found myself"(!), warts and all and can possibly start trying to deal with the issues and difficulties I have had since my very early memories. At the very least - its good to be able to put a name to being diagonally parked across life and not be stuck in a mental loop forever, wondering wtf is "wrong" with me.
I'm so glad to have found this place. A great bunch of people. Have been reading posts for a while now and have found myself saying "YES - I know!" with a lot of the posts. Hope it's ok to stick around!

Some pro didn't know a lot about AS? Gosh there's a new one. 
Brace yourself there more higher up the chain that think they do, but don't. Doesn't always work that way. In my case I don't care what they say, I know who I am and they don't have time to sit down and listen to a 56 year long story, even if I could remember it Ok to stick around? I have some tape around one of these areas some place, I'll stick you if you would like. Welcome home.

Er hold on a minute - that depends...
A. Have the Borg introduced a smoking ban?
B. Is there a bar on the cube?
C. Will Jeri Ryan be doing anything constructive with all those poles the Borg have around? 
Absolutely. My doc is pretty good actually - but he's a GP not a shrink. I have no problem with him being honest. Like you say I would a lot more worried about some of these so called experts not having a clue and not admitting it!
Doesn't really matter anyway - I'm 99% if not 100% certain in my own mind - so won't stress about it too much. Besides I have found more useful info here in the last few days than I think I will from any health professional.
