The site told us that this is the place to introduce ourselves, so it here it goes. I'm Alveari. I'm a high school student and I'm currently in my 10th Grade. In my free time, I often read books. My favorite books are often non-fiction and it usually is scientific. I am passionate about the sciences. I try to study and learn about every field but I know that I may not really master all of them. I also like to research tons information on the Internet if I currently don't have a book in hand. I also have a very good memory. My musical interests are mainly classical and alternative rock. Although I am willing to listen just about any musical genre as long as they are legitimately good and has a deep meaning. My social life is almost dead; if it weren't for the three people whom I consider to be friends (two of them are neurotypical and one of them suffer from anxiety). I appreciate their efforts to understand and accept me as what I really am but one of them has admitted that she doesn't really get me some of the time. I guess that okay, right? I mean she's already done a lot by befriending me so why would I complain? I don't really know what I would become someday. But I do know that I want to work in a scientific field in the near future. If you were to ask me why I joined this site, I'd probably say that I was looking for someone that I can relate with. I honestly don't know what exactly am I. Only that I know I am not neurotypical because if I were, I wouldn't have been a hermit for thinking differently. I feel anxious in crowds. I suffer from occasional panic attacks. Emotions feel foreign and alien to me. I hate being touched. Perhaps I do fall somewhere in the spectrum but where exactly do I fall? I don't really know if my brief immersion in this site will work or if I will find the answers I am looking for in here, but I do want to try.

Welcome to wrongplanet!

You sounded like me when I was in high school. I liked classical music, but I don't really listen to music that much these days. I don't watch TV and have been living without one since I left home! I read a lot of books related to my interests. I was fascinated by philosophy, culture and religions when I was in my teenage years. Only when I was at university, doing Bachelor of Arts, I was aware that I actually liked sciences. So, I moved on to nursing. I practiced as a nurse for a few years. My job required a lot of interaction with people, nice as well as nasty ones. I could not handle that. It drove me insane and drained me totally.

My current field of interest is nutrition and health. I am planning to complete a degree in nutrition, so that I can get a job in that field. I dream to do research and that is the only thing I truly enjoy. A job that will allow me to study a lot, a lot and share my obsession with like-minded people. I encourage you to pursue that too once you know what field you like. It may take years to find. Please keep searching.

Well, hope you enjoy the forum.
All the best.

Hello, how do you pronounce your name?

My name is Isla. (Eye - la) I'm sixteen and love reading non fiction. What books have you read?

It's nice to meet you Isla. It's a Latin word for ''hive''. It's pronounced as ''AL-VE-YA-RI''. Does that help? Most of the books I've read are about science although I read about other subjects too. Some of them are A Brief History of Time, The Prince, Art of War, Sapiens, Einstein, and the Grand Design. Usually if I am too impatient to wait for the right time to buy a particular book, I just go and look it up on the Internet. I do plan to read more science books though. How about you? what books have you read?

Yes that helps, thanks.

I like reading drama and sci-fi, so I've read His Dark Materials, Chaos Walking, Numbers and The Hunger Games. All of which are trilogies. Sometimes if I don't want a challenge I'll read some Jacqueline Wilson but at the moment I'm reading The Dice Man.
