New here and looking for friends
Greetings. New here.
I'm looking for bright web friends, though my comfort zone rarely extends beyond my subjects of study and hobbies. Aged 48 and living in Kent, WA. I'm from the UK originally and have not been able to make any friends over here in 8 years. Quiet, shy generally and very shy around women (Raj Koothrappali type!) This has been quite a problem, I didn't get my first g/f till I was 39 and then married her. Shocked by that? Not as shocked as me.
If anyone wishes to converse about the following crate of topics, I'd love to chat, one to one even if you like:
2nd edition AD&D (30 years xp, extensive campaign, world building, storytelling and the other stuff that comes with it).
Tries to run a play by e-mail.
Python coding (beginner)(Using Ninja IDE) Giving myself 2 years to get proficient.
Making lists of things to do.
Making lists of lists of things to do.
Fantasy authorship (Written a few), Fantasy Art (But I can't really draw the stuff!)
R.E.Howard (He's the BEST).
Computer Aided Design (Architectural, Mech Eng. 2-d &3-d) (AutoCAD, TurboCAD, Inventor...old stuff) I use Corel Photopaint a lot.
Historical European Martial Arts (12 years experience, 5 as Instructor)(Longsword, Sword & Buckler.)
Medieval armour. I built a few suits.
Ancient Greece, their religion, their culture, history, fighting methods....anything from that period.
Vikings, Saxons...anything from that period. Even made some viking clothing. Can't make shoes.
Castles...I love castles. Obsessed with them. Never understood why.
Making some strange paintings that no one understands or likes. Well, my wife likes them. But she would right?
Struggling with type 2 diabetes.
Wondering where life has gone and why the party never produced any beer for me when everyone else got drunk and had a great time.
Spirituality and religion (non Abrahamic).
Uses Linux.
Info:
I was an INTJ, a bit of a Dr. Spock style person but since my dog died, my Briggs Meyer tests have changed to INFJ. I don't usually get that upset about people dying around me but I cried for months for my dog. That really gave me the smackdown. His passing has profoundly changed the way my mind works.
Failed my short and long tests, but am sort of in denial about my citizenship of aspieland.
Not diagnosed, but my wife is sure of it. She sometimes calls me Sheldon. I get the feeling my wife is also bored with my repetitive lifestyle, but she's ISTJ and she's entrenched in her own ways.
Happily married, very bored with my town, very isolated and have zero social life at all. This is my fault. Totally.
Dumped facebook because I couldn't stand all the political stupidity and disinformation going on. Never again. I can't handle drama.
Anyway...thanks for letting me introduce myself. I sat here blank for quite a while wondering if this was a good idea. Well, here goes...

Welcome! I played D&D for a few decades myself - tried play by emails twice but they both fell apart quickly (one before my PC even met any of the others, I think.) I'm also happily married, very isolated and have little to no social life, but though my town is small and quiet I still find it much nicer than the endless suburbs I grew up in, so can't say I'm bored with my physical location.
Hello Quiet Water.
I've had pbm games collapse for different reasons, but they recur often, these sort of things:
Player doesn't respond in reasonable time, or the game responses are alwats out of sync with time-flow. Disrupts other players. Player delegates everything to the DM and overloads them, doesn't have access to the rule books, tries to game on their phone at work in the bathroom.
Player rewrites fixed data warping game reality. Referee puts in 2000 word game turns, player returns five words and they don't make sense. That sort of stuff.
Must have wrote over a million words in two years of PBM'ing and that terminated abruptly when a fight went badly wrong for the players and they returned their game turns to me ripped into pieces (it was snail-mail). Things like that just stun me to silence. Occasionally return to trying to make it work again but each time, my storyline is unable to capture peoples attention like WOW or Diablo 3. I think the PBM days are over now. People's minds have changed through technology use. People also seem to mainly want to hack n slash.
At the moment, I just game at the table with my wife who is very very literate and has lots of focus. This helps take away the sting of being in a very quiet town. Have one player in a private yahoo group, on something like turn 20 at the moment. The main plot has just begun to unveil.
If you find yourself craving detail and long term game continuity, then I might have the game for you. Though you'd have to put plenty of effort into game responses. Let me know. I'm always on the look out for people who know how to project into the game world and have a realistic comprehension of the pc's limitations.
Thanks for chatting.
