Hi all

I am 35 and recently self-diagnosed. My g/f bought a copy of Tony Attwood's Complete Guide To Asperger's Syndrome and what a shock to see all of my idiosyncracies spelled out in text exactly as they happened to me, and exactly how I reacted and why that made it worse...I have been compensating heavily for so long and didn't realize it. Trying to hide...what? I never knew. Now that I know there is no need to hide because it is not that bad. At least at my age I have developed many skills that help me. My girlfriend has it too though! That's how we've managed to live together for 8 years. We knew we had a unique relationships, but had no idea why.

I know so many people with signs or possibly full-blown AS that I am unsure if I should discuss it with them or just leave it be, secure in the knowledge that now I (we) finally GET it. Decisions will be easier now, like whether to go out or not.

Anyway, I am elated to have discovered what's RIGHT with me. And blessed to share my life with someone who has also been there.

Nice to see this community out there and hello! 8O

Eye-opening is right. I have woken from a long nightmare. You know, like a dream where you're in school and you realized you've skipped class all year but don't know why. Well I've woken up :o .

It's great that you have such a good relationship with your gf. Maybe this will be something that can bring you even closer (as if I know what i'm talking about, i sound like Dr. freaking Phil  )

Anyways, welcome to WP from Roxas, the ronin samurai who's wandered the wrong planet for years.

Hey, welcome to WP. I'm sure my Mew would say the same thing if he wasn't trying to break the world record for the keeping a Pokeball in the air for the longest time without hitting the ground.

Welcome to WP!

My 36 year old husband is Aspie (not officially diagnosed, but reading Tony Attwood's book is like reading about him).

We have 3 sons - our middle son, aged 7 has Asperger's confirmed.

Congratulations! I'm glad Tony Atwood's book has helped you.

Well it's nice to be congratulated on this. Feels sort of ironic but it's good to know how to handle my energy more wisely, not exhaust myself needlessly.

I hope this thread might inspire single aspies who wonder if it's even possible to meet your match :( but it is a very natural thing to attract who you need as a partner 8) Aspies attract aspies, We are not the only aspie couple we know. It is natural for them to find each other when both parties reach out beyond the box. The effort is huge but the payoff is worth it when it finally does come :D
