Hi,

Im very new to this forum, and so glad I found it! My son was just diagnosed 3 days ago with aspergers. I have so many questions to ask, but I will post those in the general discussion area. I just wanted to stop in here first and introduce myself, and my son.

My name is Fran, and Im a mother to 4 wonderful children. My oldest son, isaac... age 10, was just diagnosed as having aspergers (although ive suspected it for several months now). When he was 5 years old, he was diagnoses with ADHD, and having a mild form of OCD.

If you'd like to know more about us... just ask. But for now, Im off to post some questions in general discussion. So much i need to know!

Thanks
Fran

Well, it's great that you found the site. First thing you need to know is that your son is just like any other person, and with the right attitude and care, can grow up to be just like any neurotypical person, only smarter and with better morals and imagination. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise: people that do probably either don't have a psychology degree or need to have theirs revoked. If you need proof of this, jsut look at me: Living the life as a sophomore high-school student with a bunch of friends and an outstanding GPA, and I've been mainstreamed all my life. The only thing i might have a problem with is my obsession with feudal Japan... wait a minute, since when has that been a bad thing?

If you have any other parenting questions that i probably wouldn't understand, just hop on over to the Parent's Forum. Welcome to WP from the ronin guy!

Why don't you get your son to join WP too?

Two of my grandsons are members, and love it. One has recently been diagnosed and is flourishing here. We don't know what would have happened if a teacher had not recognised his condition and WP did not exist. The elder is being assesed now, and it will be a relief if he is aspie.

All the best to you and your family.

Hello and welcome :) I have 2 teen sons with AS. They were diagnosed in February and April of this year. I have found this site to be very helpful. It is just a relief to know that other people are struggling with the same issues every day. I hope you will find the same sense of community.

Welcome,

I too am fairly new. I have yet to explore the whole sight, but the places I've been have been very informative.
