Hi - I'm Tom - Age 59 - diagnosed in February 2018 - Sorry if I'm a bit obsessive to state this first thing, I'm on the "Mild" end but am realizing that may only be true because I learned how to mask well - And I think the masking was more for my "protection" from the truth about myself, than a genuine compensation for the things I could not understand. I hoping to learn a lot from everyone here - I'm "new" in so many ways here... :) Thank you all!

It's really worth it trying to find your true self.
It won't be easy, but i feel you.

Late D's are the best.

You've survived this long
creating passable versions
of you YOU YoU
to get along with
allllll the others.

Well done!

You've probably got workarounds
galore,
and avoidances,
and secret comforts,
and those meltdown stories,
oh the meltdown stories.

WP is a treasure chest
full of successes and
failures
and joys and
sorrows.

Glad you're here.
We're all richer for it.

This is so recognisable!
An article I find very useful about masking and passing is musingsofanaspie.com/2013/10/24/the-myth-of-passing/

This "musings of an aspie" blog has been my most useful resource during my recently started journey of self discovery, as such I recommend it highly. It also contains articles about sensory issues, social things, coping strategies... let me know what you think about the article!
I wish you all the best,

JSBach

Welcome! Yes, you need to figure out who you are. An Aspie diagnosis means you are certifiably different. Now the challenge is to find out where you are different. And then decide whether or not it is worth doing anything about it.

For instance, I can now drop in and out of a "flow state" very easily. This allows be to do a lot of stuff quickly and accurately. But, I need to be more aware of my surroundings when driving.

I also got diagnosed this year! I'm on the mild end too, people could never have guessed when I tell them i'm an aspie but I can tell... Been sure of it for years before the official diagnosis. Also trying to discover, and accept, the true me.
