I'll start with a short introduction:

My name is Nikki and I'm a twenty-five-year-old student from New Jersey, USA. I have not been formally diagnosed or placed on the ASD, but I have an older brother with ASD (low-functioning) and can relate to many of the issues because of the exposure with parents being concerned about my brother's developmental well-being. It has not been easy and there have been grief as well as milestones made throughout the years. I'll spare the details unless it relates to any particular subject or if I am asked any questions in regards to them.

I have seen this forum a few times and subjects that pertain to people's struggles with ASD/Asperger's and empathize with much of what you all may be going through. I'll try to be of help in any way I can even if it's to give moral support on issues as I browse around and acquaint more with this site.

One other reason that I have joined is to reach out to parents who are raising/have raised ASD children and what type of struggles and compromises were made while getting services for them. One of the projects for my studies pertains to autism and how parents from a particular background were able to assess, obtain services and the quality of services pertained to both their ASD child(ren) as well as their own in regards to various types of support (financially and emotionally.) I hope that it could be acceptable, as it would be in a questionnaire format with confidentiality of no identity exposure and you can withdraw from the survey at any given time.

Firstly, thanks for thinking to ask about the appropriateness of your survey before posting it - you might be amazed how many students and researchers don't! Secondly, if folks are interested in helping with your research, you'll need to have it approved by the site administrator as well before posting (the 'Contact' link at the foot of the page will lead you to them) - that can sometimes take a little while, so probably best to do it now while you're waiting for responses from parents.

Thank you for your response. I will do so shortly. I know that there's a parent section on here but figured to also give it as part of my introduction too since it's encouraged to post here first before anywhere else. I appreciate the response.
