Hello, I am new here. I've never really done the whole forum/message board thing, so this is a new experience for me. I've basically known that I have what used to be called aspergers since I was a child, though I guess I wasn't truly, officially diagnosed until my early or mid twenties. I haven't had much experience interacting with other people like me, which I guess is part of the reason why I made an account here. I don't really know what else to say here, charisma is my dump stat.

I'm only a couple of months old(here). It's like getting in cold water, just dive in and get it over with :D . I found it easy to get to know others by just diving into conversations that caught my interest.

Yeah I typically alternate between charisma and intelligence depending on the situation.

Yeah that is what I've been trying to do. I'm still new to message boards though, and not completely sure what to say most of the time. For the most part people seem okay, but I don't have a lot of experience with people who are like me, so I'm a little nervous. I've known about this site for a couple years but was terrified at the prospect of new social situations. I have a little more social experience now so that's not as big of a deal anymore.

Unlike a lot of the time out in the wider world, there's no pressure here to speak just for the sake of etiquette, and no-one will get on your case for being "too shy" or "too quiet". So don't put yourself under unnecessary pressure to participate any more than you're comfortable with. Because autism can effect language abilities and social comprehension in so many different ways, there's a lot more tolerance for the occasional faux pas here than you'd find IRL or on most other websites. I was very pleasantly surprised how soon I felt at home here considering what a shambles I can make of a simple conversation IRL!

Oh, that's good to know. I'm horrible at talking in person at least 95 percent of the time unless I'm talking to people who know me really well. I have a tendency to hang on to things that I regret saying for at least like a mobth before my mind finally lets it go. It is also kind of strange for me to be able to talk freely about my diagnosis, as it usually only comes up maybe once in conversatin offline, and usually the response is a mere "but you seem normal". And then it never comes up again. Which for the most part is fine because yeah I don't want it to define me but at the same time it is still nice to be able to acknowledge it every now and then and not feel like I'm potentially nuking my social experiences.

I'm actually not clear on whether I got diagnosed as a child or not. My mom mentioned they talked to a doctor, and that initially I was thought to have ADD but she and my dad wouldn't accept that diagnosis because I wasn't hyper at all. So I don't know if there was an official diagnosis then at all. I do remember getting it confirmed for sure in my twenties though. I heard that's kind of rare. The psychiatrist never actually specified what she had diagnosed me with either, and I've actually had doubts about it for years but it is hard to deny that I exhibit at least a few symptoms.
