Hi everyone, since it's been a year here and my original intro post is buried on the bottom of page 8, so I figured I might as well do this again...

--------------------------

Hi everyone. My name is Scott, and I'm 25 and I live along the western shore of lake michigan.

I found out about aspergers last summer after happening to read a newspaper article about it while waiting to have new tires put on my vehicle.

I spent nearly a month afterwards looking up a much as I could about aspergers in an attempt to disprove the notion that I had this, but instead things only made more sense to me.

Since that point, 396 days ago, the magical feeling I felt last summer has since dissapeared and I now live day to day with this.

To sum up my incarnation of asperger...

Sensory problems:
- I hate shirt tags, and rough sensations
- I hate loud sudden noises
- I find sunlight to overwhelming, I need to wear sunglasses when outside, my room has the windows blocked out
- I have really sensitive hearing
- I have an underdeveloped sense of taste, as indicated by my need to load up bland things with salt or other seasoning beyond the point that most people would tolerate.

Overload problems:
- I zone out when things get to be too much for me, whether I'm in crowd, in class, or anywhere else for that matter. My brain seems to do it as a self-defense mechanisim.
- In general I find that I have a lower tolerance for just about any sensory input when compared to NT people
- I generally am a creature of solitude, who prefers to be alone most of the time, away from unwanted sensory stimulation

Stims:
- I rock when I'm deep in thought or I'm nervous about something
- I need to repeat things being playing to my ear over and over
- I stare at lights and love super saturated colors

Social interaction:
- I've could always handle one on one WYSIWYG type interactions, but throw in inuendo, hidden-double meanings, ETC, and any chance I have of keeping up tends to go out the window
- Don't get me started on the opposite sex
- Looking into other people's eyes is like looking into the gates of hell

Special interests and splinter skills:
- TV broadcasting
- ability to indentify a song after only the first few notes
- Super Sloppy Double Dare, the ultimate TV show from my childhood
- Photographic memory
- Visual thinking
- Some limited calendar calculating.

I feel that I'm rather lucky in some respects that I have been able to manage fairly well when compared to what I have read about other people who have this, and considering how I was as a younger person who was written off being hopeless by my parents and others.

However the true test of being fully independent lays not to far off in the future and I will see if I have what it takes.

Anyway, the past year here has been quite fulfulling for myself. Unlike previous message boards I've frequented in the past, I have not run out of things to say or have gotten bored here. Your company has been very much appreciated and I'd like to meet some of you if I can ever find the time or gather up the ambition and courage to do so.

Here's to another year here at WP :)

1)....I is good that you finished your 1st year,
and don't be afraid to ask for assistance so the
second year will be better and more focused!

2)....With time and patience, I think you will
find friends! and perhaps a girlfriend????

Where there is hope, there is a way, and
the clue is be yourself(scarry you try to
describe yourself) and they will see your
inner-beauty!

Good luck in this area as well in finding
friends that will accept you at this school!

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter :D

Thank you for the words of encouragment.

The girlfriend part really scares me though. I spent a lot of time last fall with a female at school, but in the end we just didn't really seem to click although we got along OK.

To quote you

"The question repeated... Will Scoot's find a girlfriend this fall?"
