Gilbert the Filtert...The Passing Show of 1915. You wouldn't also happen to like collecting old records?

...Howdy to all :) ! I would like to collect 78s,
(and, more so, other records) but I have no turntable to use now :( .
That is indeed where the song I took my handle from came from. I have not heard the original version get - I heard a version sung by Arthur Treacher, from an I suppose 60s album by him and Merv Griffin. Apparently an " Knut " was something like an upper-class party boy/fun-lover.

I love that kind of music & am moderately obsessed with late-Victorian/Edwardian/1920s/Great Depression-era stuff in general, so that's the first thing that came to mind.

It's better to be a knut than a masher; you'd get yourself stabbed with a hatpin that way. Knuts could be anything but at least they had the option of being fairly harmless...Gabriel Syme from "The Man who was Thursday" was a knut.

You're a Canute? Like that German polar bear, or the greatest king England and Denmark have ever shared?

I'd like to get a direct-drive turntable. I have a belt-driven one, but it's no good for scratching because the belt slips off.

As I said (it will become) below I found myself unable to sign in as Imgilbertthefilberttheknutwithak - so I re-registered, as Dilbert The Filbert  !
