Hi,
I'm not sure what I should write other than: I'd finally realised I was "different" from just about everyone else in that I just didn't "get" most people I met.
After 30+ years of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and just about every other "-ists" you can think of; I've been "diagnosed" as
"possibly" all of the following: A sociopath, a psychopath, bi-polar and DEFINITELY someone with a very severe personality disorder. But no-one ever suggested "on the spectrum".
After many years of getting into all sorts of interesting and varied "trouble" and years of casual online investigation, I saw a self-filmed documentary by 3 autistics (I hate the word "Sufferers") who (IIRC) took a Ford Transit van for a holiday to somewhere in the north of Scotland and things finally made some kind of sense to me.
Since then, I've realised that there's probably some kind of hereditary link (relatives who're either diagnosed or not) as I've finally worked out that many of us are all over the spectrum. My ex-gf (and BFF) has autistic kids who were "unmanageable" but get on unbelievably well with me and who I've helped get back into mainstream schools (After explaining that there are rules we don't understand but have to play by).
Anyway, that's part of my story and if I've broken any posting rules - sorry.
Oh, and if anyone can find the Transit van / autistic holiday I'm talking about and can post a link - much appreciated!

Welcome to Wrong Planet Argueman :D

That documentary rings a bell.

Are you sure you are not thinking about a Tourettes documentary? otherwise I haven't seen it.

Errr... Yep - You're right! Think I conflated / confused it with another one. I'll have to trawl through the forums and see if epilepsy and autism are connected somehow because I've always had an irrational dislike / hatred of the word "portion" and since the end of last year, I started having seizures (then diagnosed as epilepsy) preceded by a warning by a horrible smell. And I have pretty much no sense of smell. And one of my autistic nephews can't bear certain clothing textures - which I know is also common. Sorry if I seem to be waffling a bit but I'm trying to connect the dots.
Anyway, Thanks!

Not to my knowledge.

BTW, You can't be too autistic if you have an ex, and get on well with her and the kids.
Autism is a spectrum. ;)

Welcome to Wrong Planet by the way Argueman ~ here is a link involving the Autism and Epilepsy thing:

The link between epilepsy and autism, explained.
Autism frequently co-occurs with any of a long list of other conditions. But none may be more closely linked than epilepsy. Nearly half of all autistic people have epilepsy, according to some reports, suggesting that the two conditions share underlying biology. For example, both conditions are characterized by overly excitable brains.

News to me.
I guess I dodged a bullet there.

No worries , as DT7 posted , there is a correlation between autism & epilepsy , I don't have it but my daughter does. Here's hoping that you can finish your dot to dot book here :D

Hi and welcome :). Sorry to hear of the start of your seizures last year. Hope you’re finding treatment effective. Deepthought posted a good link there. If you’re looking for further reading on Autism & Seizures, then here’s some research and information I put together on it ...

Welcome to Wrong Planet from a fellow epileptic! :D

I had my first seizure when I was eight years old and am currently on three prescriptions.

My daughter has TLE as well, with High Functioning Autism.
After seizures she develops a flop sweat and vomits for 10-15 minutes. That's how she was first diagnosed.

:(

Thankfully I've never witnessed one of her fits although I've read up on what to do. She's been fit free for over a year now due to lifestyle changes.

Hi there Argueman and welcome, this thread reminds me of a signature a member had a few years back, it was something like this: why ask google, when you can ask an aspie :D
