I am Australian, gay and autistic - just to use three labels. I am 57 years old but only diagnosed with autism (level one) a couple of years ago.

Overall, I am happier in life now with a formal diagnosis than when I was younger with all sorts of unresolved problems.

One of my interests is autism and ageing. Sometimes I get the impression older people are forgotten about when it comes to autism. I make it my business to find out more.

Welcome to WP!

You will find a few WP members who have had a lot of birthdays. I was diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild) shortly before my 65th birthday. I am now 67.

welcome! diagnosed at age 68 two years ago, you are spot on! There is a virtual wasteland when it comes to learning more about autism in older adults. That is rapidly changing today with more books and articles coming out in the past 5 years when I began exploring to learn more about adult autism. Take a look at blogs, studies, autism websites, youtube, and ask loads of questions, forums like this are loaded with people with combined lived experience and who have plenty of insights and explanations, suggestions and ideas to share. The best thing about my diagnosis was that it explained all the "whys" of past pains and struggles and I learned all my failures were not "all my fault". Next best thing was finding that I was not alone, and that there were many like me, people who understood. Glad you are with us, welcome to the tribe. :)
