This is the first time I have signed up for a forum in years.
Despite having been diagnosed since childhood, I feel like I always learn new things about having Asperger's.

I am hoping to use this place as a healthy outlet for venting, general discussion, and learning.

A bit about myself - I'm a university student studying wildlife ecology and conservation. I love spending time in nature and interacting with animals. I'm attempting to specialize in entomology! I don't know about you, but I always have an easier time understanding wild animals. Their behaviors are a lot more predictable and make more sense to me than those of people. Maybe that's an aspie thing, maybe that's just me. What do you think?

Welcome!
I'm a fellow Nevadan.
I drove out here from Northern New York in 2009, and have been here ever since.
It took years, but I now consider Nevada to be my home.
We lived in Reno most of the time, but now live in a tiny town in the boonies, not far from Winnemucca.

It seems that an unusually deep "connection" with critters is a common trait among ND people. And often for the reasons you suggested.

Welcome to WP! I hope you find plenty of what you are looking for here...except bugs...I hope you don't find bugs here.

I was in computers so I believe bugs are bad!

welcome, you are not alone! I have similar interests. Yes, I do think animals are easier to understand because words don't get in the way. body language of people may say one thing, words something else. that is confusing. Glad you are with us!

Howdy from Southern Utah! :-) And welcome to WP! I'm a relative newbie myself and still undiagnosed/learning about all things autism. So far this has been a friendly, welcoming platform full of excellent information and good people. Glad to see another resident of the desert southwest! Hope you enjoy checking out the forums and sharing ideas--personally, I've benefited so much from the various insights of people here--a much healthier and more honest source of information than those myriads of clinical-sounding articles written by NT scientists trying to fit everyone's brains into neatly labeled boxes. Whether in this forum or out and about on the Wild Wild Web, #actuallyautistic sources have been the ones who have taught me (and continue to teach me) the most about all this. Welcome!

Greetings from Texas.

I definitely agree that animals are easier to understand and live with than people. That's why I myself am pursuing a career in service dog training even though I have a degree in a completely unrelated field. Over the years I found dogs and other fluffy animals to be more enjoyable to be around. I hope your education and career endeavors are happy and successful.
