Hello,
I am female, age 50, diagnosed in the autistic spectrum (Asperger) and I am from germany.
I signed up years ago, but for a long time I didn't really "dare" to join a forum that is not in my native language.
But more an more it feels helpful and intersting for me to read thoughts from (and in case exchange with) people internationally, so I am more active here now, more with reading, maybe some more writing may follow.
To introduce myself accuratley within one text I always find challenging, so I'll leave it with these words for now,
more about me will probably show up if necessary.

Hello JaneD! I also find it interesting to read the varied viewpoints from around the world. I’ve been to Celle a few times and would love to visit Germany again.

Welcome out of the shadows JaneD :D

I lurked a long time before making an account. Your written English is excellent by the way.

This is the good thing about an english forum, many people around the world can communicate in english.
And I did already see that there are people from various countries writing here :)

Yes, it really feels like this :D , and thank you.
So far I write my text in english and copy it into a translator. If the translated text still makes sense to me - I send my text, else I try to correct something :D ..

Hi, I’m a 59-years-old man from the United States. Most of my schooling as a boy was in the state of Texas.

Growing up, autism was viewed as rare and as the children who couldn’t talk at all.

I certainly never heard that it might be a spectrum.

Anyway, it’s very nice to have you and Welcome to WrongPlanet ! :jester:

Thank you. :jester:
That autism is a spectrum I did not know for a long while as well.
Growing up, I more and more developed the feeling and idea, something must be "wrong" within me,
but never knew what and thought, I have a brain, I will be able to learn to get along, even if I do not automatically "know" what other people seem to know about (social) life.

When I got older I realized, that I seem to have an own way of perception.

Even though I tried and kept on learning, even after I thought , I take myself serious with all
that there is within me I did never find a fitting "home" within society.

It was helpful for me that someone one day asked me, if I may be autisic, it still took a while until I understood,
that autism is different to the ideas I had about it.

I feel I can recognize , very clearly , about the things you have written about in your post here . :D
It could be a good description of myself as well.

It's interesting, although a person's individual life experience and perception on the spectrum is
most likely very different from another's experience, when talking to other people on the spectrum it seems more likely to meet someone who shares similar feelings about being in this world

I was very surprised when I was told that autism (Aspergers) is sometimes referred to as "wrong planet syndrome."
That was the beginning for me to realize that maybe I really may "fit" into this pattern called "autism."
I have previously tried to describe my feelings with a similar image,
that I feel as if I mistakenly landed on earth with its strange matter and word languages that now appears as a huge university for me :D.

welcome to your new school/ University of life ..lolz . Yes your pattern is similiar to several women I have written with on this Wrong Planet too. Even though i grew up with a non verbal autistic little sster, I did not consider that i could be on the spectrum, but as years passed , and i could not figure out why things were in my life . The way they were( kinda like a bad fit in all social situations) . So when life permitted, i started to look into it. Being Autistic myself in way hard to see the differences in myself . Cause,, i had little things things to reference from, but my little sister was,a hint to me. Do consequently did not get a formal diagnosis till I was older.

Yes,"University" of life seems to have its own timing and rules when to face and learn what.
