Hi there!

Few weeks ago I realized, I'm an Aspie and suddenly everything make sense. But I figured it out quite late. I'm already adult. It's sad, because so many bad happenings in my past I couldn't avoid, because I had no clue. That's why I had a tiny self-crisis. I discovered something really important about myself, but nothing changed in my life. I'm without family and friends, just my beloved dog and a lot of strangers around me without understanding for me and my situation. I can't talk about my thoughts and feelings to nobody in person. That's why, I want to be a member of this community, in hope to find help and support from people like me with same problems and I wouldn't feel so lonely anymore on this planet. We can talk and help each other in order to understand better who we are. I am sure, something will change then - to the better.

Welcome.

Are you from Ireland?

There are people here from Ireland. And there are many here who can identify with you as far as being lonely is concerned.

Welcome to WP! I think you'll find some understanding here.

And I'm curious, when you say you figured it out "quite late", just how late? I got the diagnosis shortly before my 65th birthday, and some others here were diagnosed later than that. Are you as old as us? 8O

P.S. I'm a cat person, myself.

Good morning everybody! Thanks for so many replies!
I'm already feeling in good company here.

@kraftiekortie: I was born in Germany, but my heart is in Scotland. I was living there for a while.
@Double Retired: You are right. I'm not so old, just had the wish, to figure it out earlier.

I remember a lot of therapists in my teenage time, who told me: I disturbed in early childhood, I have a personality disorder (like Borderline), I need dialectical behavior therapy, my emotional reactions are wrong and so on ... I believed that and felt guilty.
I'm glad to find out finally: I am not wrong, just different and it's not even my fault.

I'm looking forward to get in contact with the cast of characters! :D

There are definitely some characters here! :D

And, as to whether or not it is good to figure it out earlier...I think it depends. Obviously, if treatment or formal accommodations are needed then earlier is better. But if someone is able to muddle through life adequately then it is possible (as in maybe, not necessarily) they might be better building a life without the label.

I was diagnosed at age 64, after I'd been retired for some years. The diagnosis pleased me greatly! I was old enough that it wasn't a warning of problems I would face in the future but rather about problems I had successfully negotiated in the past. (Maybe some more gracefully than others.) The diagnosis explained a great deal and I really did insist on picking up champagne on the way home from receiving the diagnosis.

@Double Retired: You have a real good kind of thinking!
I should remember, too, which problems I already solved in my specific way. As long as I don't maneuver myself in a dead-end-street,
I can be proud of my previously way. Thanks to you!

Do you enjoy the rural parts of Croatia?

If the street is blocked you try a different route. Just be careful which routes you try; I generally tried to take a path that would move me forward...any goals along the way were just to get me positioned for further progress forward, there was no ultimate goal other than a secure future.

P.S. In many ways I've done well for myself. But there was much unhappiness along the way. I just continued forward while feeling unhappy...if you're in a bad spot then you're in a bad spot to stop.

I enjoy the rural parts of Croatia and - of course - the sea. I can enjoy every place in this world, but a lot of people I meet at the places destroy it, because it's so difficult to me to manage all these contacts. I thought my whole life, maybe I just meet the wrong people and I should look somewhere else for the right community. That's why I'm travelling so much. A lot of people really haven't been good to me. I'm too easy to be exploited by others and blame myself for everything that goes wrong. These are the bad spots on my way I shouldn't stop so long. I still have a lot to learn.

Sorry you have to endure this.

I wish I could travel more.
