Recently diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 33. Medication is a minimum 6-month wait at the moment, but made my peace with this, after all I've got this far. Can't wait to find out what life is like when my brain shuts up for 5 seconds though.
Anyway.
I'm basically looking for some coping tools/advice, some like-minded people who understand the struggle. It's mainly feeling like I don't have anyone to talk to about how it feels, at least not without getting the reply, "Oh but everyone feels like that" or "I get that all the time and I don't have ADHD." It's very wearing to always hear that response and would just for once quite like someone to just listen?
I do have one close fellow neurodivergent friend whose had similar experiences but I really struggle with feeling like I'm irritating/annoying to people when I talk about it. The "overshare" fear is real.
Another main area of struggle is mood regulation. My anger builds very quickly, I snap, I lash out, then torture myself for days over how much I overreacted to something I see as minor once I'm past it.
Just struggling with how much I'm containing my feelings and worried about my state of mind from keeping it all in.

If you've had a diagnosis why the wait? The doc I saw wrote a first (self titration) scrip out the same day.

That was private though, the NHS I've been waiting nearly 4 years for an initial assessment... GP told me recently (after them demanding a review for the co-prescription and I inquired as to when they might have someone see me) I've been lost off the system and have to start from the back of the queue, 7 year wait now. Pathetic .

Sigh.

I am not ADHD and therefore felt unqualified to respond.

I've been pestering my bride to respond, however. She is diagnosed, though she's diagnosed with the equivalent diagnosis they were using back around 1960.

Some people outgrow it. She definitely did not.

I am very sorry. She's been too fricken busy to respond. :?

All I can suggest is find productive channels for using all that energy. (At least that's what I try to get her to do.)
