It would seem entirely your choice whether or not to seek a formal assessment.
If you want formal support for your "condition" then you likely need a formal diagnosis.
But a formal diagnosis may or may not create problems for you. Will your employers require you to disclose the diagnosis to them? Will it create any problems for you at work? Will it create problems getting hired in the future?
The older you are and the more secure your circumstances then whether or not to seek a formal diagnosis could be a matter of personal preference. I got my diagnosis when I was 65...the diagnosis would not affect my work because I retired when I was 56 (retirement is nice!). I was just curious.
Sigh. I have since figured out one possible advantage of the diagnosis. I'm getting old and see various doctors for various things more and more often. And I will blame Autism for how little good it does to have the doctors tell me stuff. I need it in writing or I will forget it. So, I tell them I've been diagnosed with Autism and that just telling me things about my medical care is useless because it will not register. I need it in writing.
And they still don't take me serious and it is still hard to get stuff in writing. Even though my Autism diagnosis is in my medical record!
But, the formal diagnosis is good justification for having an interest in the topic...like being on Wrong Planet!
