I've been lurking here for a while and just decided to start posting.

I'm 18, and was dianosed with Asperger's a little under a year ago during my first year at college. I had known about AS for a while, and suspected that I had it, so it was no surprise.

I do a lot of art, comics mostly, though I want to get into videogame development (my dad is a game developer, so I've grown up around it). I'm currently taking a year off from college to work on my art and have a job (Just got hired at an art supply and paper store, and it's been alright so far). I have a boyfriend who isn't AS, but is definitely not neurotypical, and I think we understand each other pretty well.

Getting diagnosed with AS has been a positive experience because I make a whole lot more sense to myself now. I've always had sensory problems- dislike of being touched (I remember being very young and coming to the conclusion that my sense of touch was broken), dislike of loud noises, and visual snow. I'm also very reclusive and quiet, and express myself much better in writing than in speech. My main difficulty is with situations where there is too much sensory input. If I'm in a shopping mall or around a lot of people I tend to shut down and have a hard time understanding my surroundings.

Anyway, I'm glad to have joined this forum.

I think we're the only two game design people on the site (or is there anyone else out there? modders, anyone?) but there are few other artists. Check out Civet's portfolio if you haven't yet. She graduated right alongside me, just on the other side of the country.

I don't do game design, though my younger brother has been into modding for awhile (he's 14) and at the moment I'm painting a skin for him because he's too lazy, heh.

I do more children's type illustration, in watercolor and digital, and I also make stuffed animals.

It seems you and I have many similiarities. I'm also quiet and reclusive, and express myself much better in writing. I also have noted specifically at shopping malls I start to "zone out" or go into partial shut down mode. Also, I am currently working part time at an arts and crafts store in the area. Quite uncanny, though I suppose it's not abnormal for us art-types.

Where are you attending school? What is your major?

Oh yes, and Pyraxis, I've yet to see your art... do you have any online you could share?

I haven't done much of it in the last few months, but I used to be really into game design and programming. I spent a large part of the last five years making weird and shabby (yet charming!) PC games. That's cool that your dad is a game developer.
