Hello -

I'm a guy (NVLD) in my mid-thirties and I live on the East Coast. I was diagnosed with leaning disabilities at a young age. At the time I'm not too sure there was an "NLD" label, but that's what I have, according to a recent neuropsych exam. I spent several years in OT and Special-Ed classes. I now hold a Master of Science degree from an excellent university. Three quarters of my work-day is spent interacting with the public (face to face) and although I enjoy it, it is quite stressful. I've found that working out is tremendously helpful in reducing stress. I'm in the best shape of my life by far and I exercise about 5-6 times a week. It probably goes without saying but everyday is a struggle for me socially. Most of the time I'm described as being aloof or clueless. I'm sure the description was worse when I was in college. The cluelessness always makes dating fun. I'm not giving up though.

I try to "pick up" non-verbal signals and also attempt to self-accommodate at work by keeping various check lists. As a result I am sometimes ridiculed (for both not picking things up and writing the check lists). Some things don't come easy to me so I do what I can to succeed. And for the people that would laugh at my disabilities, or my attempts to accommodate them... well, you know what they can do.

Everything seems more real - to me, anyway! - when it is written down.

Welcome here, trustwell. :)
