I've had a suggestion of a diagnosis from my psychiatrist. To add to bipolar disorder. The symptoms seem to fit but I'm afraid I might be getting into "intern syndrome" (or something of a similar name). I studied psychology while at university and excelled in my abnormal psych. class. The school actually had a really strong autusim lab but I was too self-absorbed in my depression to relate to any of the other diagnosies that our text book related. When I experience mania the AS symptoms are a lot easier to mask as my brain is drunk on its own neurotransmitters.

It's mildly uncomfortable to have yet another thing, disease, diagnosis, to reduce myself to. Some will argue that I needn't reduce myself to that but I will. Generally, I like lables and filing because it gives identity and a role to indulge. Then I can absolve myself of responsibilty when things go wrong.

Regardless, hello, this is my introduction, and I hope I'll be able to offer an ear to listen and some support to this new group I can identitfy with!

Welcome to WP!

I know how the labeling game is like; their always trying to tack one on me.

Mine have been:

  • Asperger's
  • ADHD
  • Atypical bipolar
  • mild OCD
  • possible schizophrenia

It's all labels to me, but I still take my medications. Keep in mind that you are still you!

Hi and welcome to the Aspie community....

I think there is a link to bipolar and aspergers - new research on the amygdala (a part of the brain that is involved with emotion regulation and perception) has indicated that those with Asperger's syndrome can have difficulty managing their emotions. Which is very similar to the characteristic of bipolar (manic).

Or I guess you could just say its a person with Asperger's syndrome may very quickly move into an intense emotion with a relatively minor trigger. Anyway we are all individuals and have varied associated conditions, on or off the spectrum!

Welcome aboard and Happy New Year, Ladygirl.

Your post leaves me thinking of a line from
the anime series Mew Mew Power about
"me+you=Mew mew." Oh well, there's also
the theme song from the English translation
to think about too.
