Hello. I have recently been getting the idea that I may have Aspergers. I used to think that I was bipolar but then I realized I lacked the crazy manic highs that bipolars get, but I do get the recurring depresison. I have known that something has been wrong with me for a long long time. I guess it started when I began school, I was bullied immensely and got called a ret*d a lot. This continued until I was about 13 when I began to get a few friends and relax a bit more. After that I left school, and since then I have had few friends at all really. I get very nervous doing simple things like ordering a coffee or something, because I dont really know when to look at the person serving me so I just avoid looking at them at all. Im also not really that good at small talk. I dont know what to say, so I just make some excuse and leave. Consequently I have a hard time making friends and connecting with people as I dont feel like I can relate to anyone, and this has caused things like social anxiety and depression. I have had trouble getting and keeping jobs, and even larger problems with concentrating, making it very hard for me to read books or pay attention in lectures. The only time I can pay attention is if the subject has something to do with Maths. Its like Math is the only thing my brain understands. I am also addicted to Chess. I know nobody on here is probably a doctor, but can anyone offer any opinions?

Yep, that says you have very good chance... I'm about 168 and a lot of people here are lower, so you're certainly in range.

I dont feel better for it really. I am still in two minds really. I mean I am 31 years old, so I have tried hard to develop social skills and I read body language books so I can understand people better and also develop positive mental attitude to work on healthy self esteem. But maybe everyone has to read body language books to understand people better? I dont know. I definitely know something is wrong, but I cannot put my finger on it completely. I watched a lot of videos on youtube about people who have Aspergers, and some people I can identify with but others I cannot. I have tremendous difficulty remembering peoples name, and also faces, everyone (well most people) kinda looks the same to me. Unless people talk in short sentences I cannot pay attention to them. I was recently enrolled in University trying to get a Masters in Economics, put I had to drop out due to depression (caused by not being able to make friends) and also I could not pay attention in lectures. I guess I dont really know why people are friends with each other, or how to make friends or how to turn casual aquaitances in to friends to hang out with...err stuff like that. Aspergers sounds like quite a serious thing which can seriously lower someones quality of life and possibly hinder ones progress to maximize their potential, so I am not particularly pleased if this is what is wrong with me!

Yep! No two alike, and lacking the code, it is hard to learn from books. At least you have a name, and thousands of people to look through here.

I didn't mean to ask whether you feel better about having aspergers, but rather whether you feel better to be able to put a name to your pain. There's no cure but there are ways to live with it though some people are worse than others.

31 isn't a great age to start but chances are, you've been subconsciously compensating for years. On WP, you'll learn ways to improve your communications ability and gain friends while making some great friends here along the way.
