Hello WP! I am a relatively new member, in the sense that I have not made any posts yet.

Along with my "introduction", I also kind of wanted to ask anyone who is in New York City if they could help me with the following: I suspect that I have Asperger Syndrome (purely on the information I have read on it, and some shared experiences with things people have posted here on the forums) and would like to be evaluated, but I don't know what kind of doctor to go to really, or even who to go to. I live in NYC and was just curious if anyone could maybe even recommend a doctor or hospital since most of the clinics I have found are somewhere in Long Island or are for children.

I don't live in the USA so I can't help you with any advice on that...sorry All I can say is, good luck with the evaluation when you do get it.

Hey thanks for the welcome, but what kind of specialist did you go to? A neurologist? A psychologist? I wanted to find out at least that. Thanks for any help.

Most are working children, they can't say how strange the official views are. Check the web, AS Autism, NYC, you will fingd something local. No treatment, no cuse, only self education.

YOU DO NOT NEED A MEDICAL PROFESSONAL

I recently got myself a referral for SPDpossSTPD-diagnosis, only then happened upon AS, self-diagnosed, became aware of risk of mis- or non-diagnosis even in professional community (and there is then always also the authority-matter simply because they're the pro aren't they), did some checking, became very doubtful when the hospital of referral did offer 'integral diagnosis' but googling them & any kind of AS-term yielded nope

I was puzzling on theoretical matters dealing with brain-development, so had a technical question. My mother suggested I call this lady she knew from the local hockey club, as she was what in dutch is called an 'orthopedagoog' i.e. an orthopaedic pedagogue (professional dealing with eg learning problems).

Any educational institution should be able to connect you with one. Obviously, special education seem to come to mind.

These people deal with AS on a regular basis, from a practical point of view. Find one, you could just ask for advice about this friend of yours, find out whether the concept of late-diagnosis-AS means anything to this 'op' AND if so - find out whether they know whoto refer you to

If they're any bit of a professional - they should already know enough, decide you might not even be capable of making the appointment or simply ask for help - decide to actually make your appointment themselves
it is what is happening to me right now: that lady knew instantly, there was nothing to prove, i was just extraordinarily socially alert so didn't quite fit the 'typical' AS footage, definitely HF and chameleonic and that's it: i'm just waiting for her to call and tell me wen & where to meet this psychiatrist she works with in her practiceand whom she knows has seen it been there

and well, we'll just have to sit back and hopefully enjoy the ride, but i am bl.....g scared i think that pt in my stomach is trying to tell me

How about New England Neurologists Asso.? I am not sure they are over there. I live in ME And I have been see in Boston and up here.
