I am not quite sure where to begin, but I have have had many of the ymptoms of AS from early childhood, such as horible coordination, certainly the meltdowns as a child, eye contact issues, the list goes on. I have not had it diagnosed but a friend picked it up immediately a couple years ago but because she then bashed my family for "doing a piss poor job of preparing me for the real world" I did not accept it as being valid for me, but in the back of my mind the question remained, as it did for my girlfriend. I ended up unemployed for about 5 months and finally found a job I thought I could do in a boot factory, but even though they loved my attitude they claimed I was too slow for them even though it was my first day. I thought sure they liked me, they kept telling me I was doing very well for my first day. So after spending a day severely depressed I came to realize that something really was wrong and I took a fresh look at the possibility I had asperger's. I hope to see a therapist so I can get an official diagnosis, I know it sounds strange but I actually hope I do get an official diagnosis of AS because it would verify to everyone in my life that called me selfish and rude and lazy that these things are not true, and give me some closure as well, and a feeling like I have finally found a place I belong.

Hi Jaburin

welcome to WP.

It's not silly at all to hope that you get a diagnosis. I mean, you've felt that you were different for a long time and want an explanation...there is nothing wrong with that.

I hope you enjoy posting here.

Welcome Jabby, I too am new to the forums as of today, and I too would like a diagnosis, especially if it's positive, because of the closure and understanding.

Hi Jaburin,

Welcome to WP.

It's not silly to want a diagnosis but if it costs a lot, then you have to decide whether or not it will "pay for itself" either in support $ or in self-esteem.

re: the boot job... these sorts of jobs don't seem very suitable for aspies, what are your interests? You'd be best off getting a job which matches them.

Well to be honest computer hardware is one of my interests. I think I would enjoy something like computer recycling even. Thing is that I do not know of a job today that is not numbers oriented. I cannot think of one. At this point I need to think more about it. I can see now why that job may not be the one for me. But I cannot see without a college degree what hope I have at anything better. Hopefully I will be able to get one eventually but right now I need steady income that I can actually live on.
