I have had this account for a long time, but I've been away from the site for a long time. I'd like to start posting again, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself by describing my " journey " here.
I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome two-and-a-half years ago by a trusted psychiatrist, which was quite a revelation for me. After twenty years of social isolation and awkwardness, to know that there was a neurological reason for what always seemed wrong with me was a great help. Granted, social life was still difficult, but at least I could be easier on myself. And I found that there were communities of people with similar experiences, another plus. I also met my long-term girlfriend here; we contacted each other a year-and-a-half ago , knowing that we went to universities within walking distance of each other, and hit it off instantly. The rest, as they say, is history.
Right now I'm finishing my senior semester of college, albeit with great difficulty; I've been dealing with chronic pain problems, great psychosomatic discomfort that occurs during time of stress. The doctor I was seeing at the time called it " paresthesia ", and suggested that it was a side-effect of antidepressant medication that she had prescribed me with. She responded by prescribing more medication, which led me to switch doctors. Still, despite reducing prescriptions and cognitive therapy, I have quite a bit of trouble with pain at this time.
As with virtually all Aspies, I have my specialized interests; in my case, comic books, animation ( Western and Eastern ), video games, contemporary literature, pop cultural studies, and zoology. Favorites in those areas include the comic series Preacher, Naruto, Final Fantasy VII, Ender's Game, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the Indian rhinoceros. I do a lot of creative writing ( mostly fantasy/young adult ), as well as cartooning and message board commentary. My goals involve becoming a published author and teaching English at the high school level.
Looking forward to meeting you all again.
