Hi, well first of all i'll introduce myself, my name is Seth and well as the title says i'm mnot sure if i have aspergers or not. I kind of stumbled onto some info about Aspergers on wikipedia and it's quite scary how accurately it's described me, only thing is i dont know whether I have it or not or how to find out.

I've always had problems being pretty withdrawn and never going out, i have a small number of friends who i can get on with but i still never go out with them either, if i do go out i generally just keep to myself because honestly i keep feeling like im in the way or something and noone wants me there or i start feeling paranoid if someone tries to talk to me, what makes things worse though is when i dont join in with conversations i get accused of being ignorant or rude and the only way i can describe how i feel is that its like i just want to scream.

Ive not had much problems with learning things, i had a problem with dyslexia when i was little, at least thats what the doctors thought it was anyway, my handwriting is still atrocious, but after i started teaching myself things i wanted to learn everything other learning prob just went away, i'm constantly obsessing over routines and organisation and always thought i had something like OCPD because i work obesessively until something is perfected because i can leave something unfinished otherwise it just plagues on my mind and i cant sleep.

Some of these problems i always attributed to my childhood which putting it simply was like a cross between Hostel and an NSPCC commercial, and im not proud of it but i have somewhat of a suicidal history. I've been trying to find information on how to start with getting help for all of this, I started looking into things like BUPA healthcare but you dont qualify for any kind of psychiatric help until youve been a member for 2 years and i just cant afford professional help.

I dont suppose there happens to be any info kicking around on how to get help for these kind of problems when your in this position is there?

Hi to you as well ;)

Just stumbled on the aspie test at rdos[DOT]net/eng/ that was poted in another thread, just finished the test and this is what it's saying:

Your neurodiversity (Aspie) score: 150 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 65 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie (neurodiverse)
Diagnostic prediction for Score Prediction
OCD 147 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
Social phobia 142 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
Asperger/HFA/PDD 139 You very likely will be able to receive the diagnosis
ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder) 96 This isn't a primary diagnosis you should seek

Welcome Seth36.

I was meaning to get back to you, and point you at the RDOS test, but you found it yourself. (Funny that... you had no real trouble finding it, once you started looking... could be an aspie trait, that.)

I was also going to suggest that your next port of call would be your GP. That's the route I went, two years ago, thinking I was suffering from depression (which was not really true). He referred me for some counselling, where it took the counsellor until the third session before she asked me if I had ever heard of Asperger's Syndrome. Self diagnosed within a month, I eventually had an official diagnosis, by the end of the year. All done via the NHS.

Another useful bunch here in the UK is the NAS (link) - assuming you feel you want to explore the possibilities. I joined a local social group, shortly after self-diagnosing. It's been... interesting.

Thanks for the info, will have to give that a try, hopefully I might get a bit better luck with my new GP, my last GP thought depression was just feeling sad and was a waste of doctors time (his words).

Welcome Seth, and good luck on your path to self-discovery. I'm a bit unsure of my unofficial Aspie diagnosis myself... so it looks like these things are a work in progress. Good luck, and I hope you find a niche here...

Hi Seth,

Welcome to WP.

The first step in getting help is to identify the animal...

Try the aspie quiz...

Sorry about that Seth, didn't get a chance to read down this morning.

Suggest you see a Doctor but DON'T mention AS. Looking smarter than they are is a sure way to make them give you a different diagnosis.

I agree with Lau, the NAS was very helpful to me and quick to respond, though they may be busier now.

Welcome

Yeah I'm looking into them a bit at the moment, tried getting in touch with my GP today but typical NHS service, phoned four times, two no answers and two occurences of them taking the phone of the hook.
