Hello everyone,

I just joined today. My parents just found out this year that my 12-year-old brother has Asperger's Syndrome. I found this forum and it seems very helpful so I decided to join.

I'm also a journalism student and I think I may write an article about AS since so many people seem to be either ignorant about it or completely misinformed. If anyone has any ideas of what would be a good topic for an article on AS, please share that with me.

Well... just wanted to say hello.

:)

well hello there :D my name is Kyle, and I'd be glad to help in any way I can. :) I'm just as new as you, so I'm afraid that I won't be of much help :D but I can certainly try. :)

Hello weirdfishes!

I love your user name, was it inspired by a Radiohead song?
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is one of favorite songs of all time!

Yup, my name is inspired by the song. I absolutely LOVE that song ... and Radiohead! :)

It sounds like being misdiagnosed is a common problem for Aspies. My brother was actually diagnosed with bi-polar first and anxiety. One doctor wanted to put him on some heavy medications, so my mom went for a second opinion and got the Asperger's diagnosis. After a bit of research, we're certain that is what he has. Unfortunately, they are still struggling with his school psychologist to get an IEP. She is trying to say that he just has anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, but not AS.

I once held a discussion at a science-fiction convention called "The aliens among us." I talked mostly about Temple Grandin and my daughter. I don't know what the people thought they would hear, but what they got was an education.
