I've been posting a little here and there, so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Becky and I'm 27 and from Twin Cites, Minnesota. As I mentioned in previous posts, I was diagnosed when I was 16 with social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, but it never really fit and I haven't been to the psychologist since then (for more info on me thinking I possibly have Asperger's see this thread: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt63854.html).
I actually work full time as a day training and habilitiation case manager for adults with disabilities (mental and physical). I got my bachelor's degree in 2003 for mass communication, journalism emphasis, psychology minor--I am very gifted in writing and editing and worked as a reporter for eight months, but it was stressful and I didn't enjoy writing for the newspaper. My boss was not very nice and I got belittled so much that I decided to go into another field. I was a residential counselor for a DD group home for three years before settling into my job I have now.
I only tell you about all that because it's what lead me to the seminar on autism. I listened to a man talk about his life with Aspergers and I felt like that was ME. I was seriously SHAKING after hearing his story. And I really couldn't believe I could be 27 years old and no one ever even thought I should find out if I have it.
But then again, I might not be an Aspie...I did score high on all those online tests, I just don't know if I did because of my social anxiety and loner personality...I guess I will find out soon enough.
