What can I tell you?

Well...not actually diagnosed (not sure exactly what it would achieve really), but I've had my suspicions re Aspergers for a few years - always, from an early age, trouble with the 'people' stuff, obsessive interests, verbosity to the point of boring the pants off people, and a general sense that other people had some way of navigating the social world that I'd never got the hang of. Was labeled 'hyperactive' at school (they didn't use the term ADHD back then so I'm not sure if that was what they meant), and have had at least three brushes with major depression.

I'm 39, married (to a lovely guy who's pretty sure I am AS and isn't sure about himself, although I think he's just very introverted), child-free and live in eastern England (although I want to emigrate to the USA, but that's another story). I work in a clerical medical job. The rest of the time I make weird art with paint and cut-out bits from books, write songs on my guitar, play the 'cello, listen to other people's music, work on my futuristic urban fantasy crime novel, and do way too little of anything that could be described as housework. Most of my best friends are books, and most of the rest of my best friends are online somewhere around the world.

Anyway - pleased to be here....

Welcome to WP. I'm not officially diagnosed either, but sometimes you just instinctively know
that it all fits.

Hi, ThatRedHairedGrrl,

welcome to WP.

You sound really creative. :D

My best friends are online as well, and I met them on this website!

There are lots of people here (esp adults) who are self-diagnosed. Like you said, your not exactly sure what it would achieve. For some, it has been self-reassurance, or relief and for others...just a massive gap in their wallets!
For everyone is means different things and whether to get a diagnosis or not is quite a large part of the discussion here. Sometimes it's not necessary as you don't need anyone to confirm your own suspisions but other times, it has provided people with the second opinion that they needed because they didn't believe their own judgement, or that of anyone else but a professional.

I hope you enjoy posting here.
