I'm very glad I found this online community. My name is Frank. My wife kathie and I are the parents of Matthew a 16 year old boy on the Autism Spectrum. As with many, Matt has faced his greatest frustrations in life when trying to verbally communicate with "the rest of the world."

I thought I would help Matt capitalize on the fact that he can, for the most part, get his message out when it is in written form. To that end I helped him setup a blog. With the exception of the very first post which I wrote for him, everything else is Matt, unedited and unrehearsed!

Matt really has worked hard at putting up regular posts, and his only concern now is that he has very few readers short of family and friends.

I understand that per forum rules, I can't post addresses in a forum post during my first five msgs/days with the group, but you can reach Matt's blog through links in my profile.

I know that he would really get a kick out of any positive commentary you kind folks could leave for him.

I've never seen him come out of his shell as much as I have watching him work on this blog.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that his blog is called "Walking In My Shoes." A very creative name that he came up with himself. His hope was that through his blog he would be able to help people see the world the way he sees it. Thus helping them "walk in his shoes."

Thanks Tim! I think I may have Matt join this community himself. Looks like he would really benefit from it.

I hope Matt will decide t join our community. Most of the people herre are really nice and supportive of each other. I thikn it is also good practice for social skills and a good outlet when you need to "vent" about frustrations that we all deal with.

Great idea. Be sure to caution that even here, things are not perfect and ideal... but there is a common ground here. He is fortunate to have such supportive and aware parents. Having taught students on the spectrum, discovering that my son has been diagnosed HFA, and learning that I demonstrate traits that indicate strongly my own placement on the spectrum... nothing takes the place of finding a place for one's self, wherever that may be.

I am glad you are here, and you and your wife's courage to help you son. Read all you can on the web and books. I wish you luck.
