Hello

I am new to the site and looking for volunteers to help us with an educational project that may have application in any English speaking country.

We are developing a suite of supported online and DVD based courses for parents and stakeholders around key topics in ASD, starting with "First Steps in ABA".

If you would like to review the first course and give us your feedback, we'd be happy to give a limited number of people access. No obligations, no strings attached.

PM me for more information

Thanks

Hi welcome

"First Steps in ABA".
If you know one person on the autism spectrum you know just one, we are as varied, deverse, different as those not on the autism spectrum. I feel an overall assessment and individual needs is more important than ABA - where we can be at risk of robotic training! which of course only leads long term to frustration and resentment on both parts.... embrace the individual and who they are, is key.

Hi

Thanks for the welcomes...

Yes, I've seen ABA expressed in those terms before (robotic training etc.) and as a non-expert coming to the field I can see that ABA carries a great deal of "baggage", whether that is deserved or not is another matter... people who have reviewed the course thus far have been extremely supportive and feel that what is offered is just proven practical and effective tools.

I'm not here to make judgements about what methods or approaches should be used in any case, for starters I am not qualified but certainly the team responsible for the course advocate individualised and PCP approaches, with the focus on an IEP - does that allay your concerns?

We can not be expected to produce a proper curriculum with just one course ;0) and our intention is that we will generate a full curriculum exploring all the options open to parents and people supporting individuals on the spectrum or with other special educational needs.

We'd like to do this with the support and collaboration of entire communities...

Thanks

Another quick point...
In regards to aspergers, there are very few experts in this field as the official criteria for aspergers has only been around since 1994, therefore it is vital what ever program is used, that its very inclusive of people on the autism spectrum at all levels.

Otherwise, its all to easy to up up with a training program that conflicts with people on the autism spectrum...
