Hello! I'm new. My name is Mallory, but online I go by the name Nova. I'm 19, female, and from Illinois. I love bats and wolves and am a Cher fan of 9 years! I'm currently in college, and want to be a veterinarian.

I have Aspergers syndrome, but I'm very high functioning (some might say, others say I'm moderate). I've had a lot of help over the years, so I'm more "normal" if there is such a thing, than I probably would have been, had I not received the help I was given in my earlier years. :)

Of course, it took a long time for me to actually get a diagnosis, because I'm high functioning (also I didn't talk much to my psychologists about anything significant), but after talking to my psychologists a lot, it became clear that I do have the disorder. However, they had suspected Asperger's since I was very young, maybe about 5ish.

My other diagnoses are ADHD and bipolar disorder (the latter is more of a curse than anything, though).

Over the years, social situations, shaking hands, and human behaviors have always seemed strange to me. (I was at a New Year's party the other day, where I really didn't know how to act, and just got hyper). In fact, I'd often say that animals make much more sense! I've also always gotten along with other Asperger's people. This looks like a good, helpful site that welcomes those with Asperger's, Autism, and other disorders, as well as people who have friends or relatives with it, or those just interested. I'm happy to be here.

Welcome! :D
In my experience, most aspies find animals make much more sense than humans but we are such a messed up species I don't see why everyone doesn't think that way.

Hi Mallory and welcome to the wrongplanet. It sounds like you are well on your way to a promising career and life. I also like when others seem to have a positive-type outlook about Asperger's. I actually enjoy having Asperger's. I hope you find this site interesting and informative. Enjoy.

'ello! I'd say welcome too, but I'm rather new here myself. :P I've been reading quite a few threads here, thanks to a friend of mine who is quite active on WP, but I didn't actually join until...well, today. :)

I know what you mean about the exceptionally high-functioning thing. I actually didn't think until relatively recently that I might have AS and then all of a sudden, a lot of evidence has started to stack up in favor of that possibility. I probably wouldn't be diagnosed with it if I ever did go for a formal diagnosis, but I still think that there's a possibility I have it.

But yes, best to you and...oh, alright, I'll say it :P Welcome! :D
