Parent of AS teen/young adult has questions

I am looking for ways for my AS teen/young adult to communicate with others in her age group regarding AS, we live in a very rural area of Connecticut and there are not many programs or groups close by. after looking over this website it certainly seems like a great way to talk to others about AS. My question is, Do you think that this is a good website for teens. I had hoped that there was a website out there for just teens/young adults but have not come across any.

WP is probably as safe for a teen/young adult as any other reasonably ran message board for those with AS (not talking about the esoteric ones here). I would just suggest that you keep tabs on your son and recommend that he stays away from the adult forums (although anything said there will more likely be heard in the average US Middle/High School) and possibly The Haven. There are teen forums here. I do not know if Alex ever implemented age controls so you will need to keep an eye out.

As for a teen only board, I think the issue is that we spend so little time in our teen years and they are miserable, as soon as we leave, we never want to look back. Even if a teen created such a board, I would think that as soon as they hit adulthood, they would probably abandon it.

Thanks for your opinion, the more I look at the site, the more I realize that it is probably the very best option for her. I know that she feels very lonely, I see her in many of the posts on the site - eating lunch alone, no friends to call etc. etc. and hopefully this will fill some of the void for her. Many of the adults who respond also have so much more insight. Thanks so much....
