Hello everyone, I am new sort of. I browsed the forum for a little bit before I decided to join. I am fan of Gustav Holst and I like computers. I don't know what else to write because I don't like writing about myself and don't know what I am supposed to write.

Welcome to WP! I am also a fan of Holst. (And you can probably guess at least one other person I admire )

Welcome, Gustav! Recently wrote a marching band show combining the elements of Holst's "Planets" and the music of Led Zeppelin (who lifted entire chord progressions from Holst for their music) - turned out to be quite a synthesis. Mars, Jupiter and Mercury met Friends, Kashmir, All of My Love and Stairway... fun times. Hope you enjoy your time here -

Heya. My favourite Holst music (well, to be honest, the only one I have bothered to listen to) is Mars, Bringer of War from The Planets. Can you guess why? (Clue: Look up my username)

I liked Jupiter better, though the rest of the Planets suite was a tad disappointing by comparison to those two. (Still good, just not as good)

Did you know that a few years ago the Cincinnati Symphony was commissioning a guy to write Pluto in order to "complete" the Planets Suite which was written before the discovery of Pluto? Its loss of planet status scuttled those plans, and probably for the best.

I too am a big fan of Holst's "The Planets" especially "Mars: The Bringer of War".

Welcome! I remember watching an edition of "The South Bank Show" in the early 1980s in which they showed a film version of "The Planets", which was fascinating. For Saturn, they showed a hare's carcase being devoured by insects. As for Venus, what initially looked like sand dunes in the desert..................................wow!! !
