Hi. I want to delete my account and every post I've made with it. Every few months I like to remake all of my internet accounts. No specific reason I guess. But it's something I do and like to do. So is there a way I can delete my account and every post I've made here?

No, there is no way. Deleting accounts is disruptive to the software and to the threads you have posted in.

Disruptive to the software? I wonder how that works. Many forums allow for things to be deleted, even Facebook does, and Facebook's a terrible social utility with regards to privacy concerns.

And as for threads one's posted in, the original post of mine would be removed. Anyone who quoted it would still be quoting it. I don't see how that's a very big problem.

I don't know how it affects the software, but I do agree it's disruptive to threads. The simple answer, though is that you don't have the ability to do it, and there's not someone who both has the ability and is willing do it. Thus, it's not an option for you.

You can ask a moderator to set a temp ban or pernament ban otherwise if you don't want to use WP.

What I believe I've been told is that this site runs on pretty old software. It isn't nimble. Like or not, what you want has not been programmed in.

And threads become very strange to read when one post goes missing. People may have replied without quoting, and so on.

None of which really matters. The site owner has decreed that accounts will not be deleted. End of story.

Of course since it has been coopted by autism speaks (sic) posts *do* disappear. So I will be removing information about me and not coming back since I cannot delete the account entirely.

You mean the one specific post that hurt someones feelings (for which we got notice for through someone else), with unnecessary hurtful words by using their actual name in a personal attack? I'm not sorry that got removed. To say so-and-so runs over children in his expensive car is bullying and this community is better than that. I wouldn't tolerate anyone to say that about you or anyone else here. Why should it be tolerated at all?

as far as removing the entirety of someone's posts and deleting accounts, we dont do it because it breaks the conversational flow of the threads. sometimes threads lose meaning if there are bits of it outright removed. The software also does not do this automatically, it would require interacting directly with the database in this case.

That rule existed long before Alex started trying to get funding for his videos from Autism Speaks. Completely unrelated. I understand a real controversy exists on the video decision, and have even commented on it, way back when, suggesting that Alex should have communicated with his community on it, but it isn't helpful to see conspiracy and influence where it does not exist.

AutismSpeaks are trying to get pre-natal tests to abort autistic foetuses. That hurts our feelings. I dont see any apology coming from them, or any reversal of their actions.

They obviously can dish out the hurt feelings but cant take them. Also, the article was a satire article. Nobody was stating specifically that that man would run over children with his car, it was obviously done as a joke.

However, their actions to get the prenatal testing are real and concrete, they are not satire. IMO AutismSpeaks should stay away from here, they have no business with us.

Valid questions to discuss on these forums, and they are being discussed.

It's been a while since I've gone deep into it, so pardon the out of place question, but is Autism Speaks specifically trying to develop a pre-natal test, or are they looking for the genes involved in AS? If it is the later, while I understand how A is likely to lead to B and B is likely to lead to C, a desire for A can't be equated as a desire for C. I and many other parents would like to understand the genetic component, and having that information would probably help with certain aspects of AS cause as advanced by members here, but I am also fully opposed to developing a prenatal test.

It looks to me like they are. A lot of their research seems to be around finding genes for autism, and that suggests that once they have found which genes are involved, they will have the information they are looking for.

This is called the Autism Genome Project. I cant think of any other application for this information besides pre-natal testing, though it is possible also they might be thinking of some kind of gene manipulation.

However, on their website they are very vague about the exact reason and application for this research they are doing, and to me vagueness can mean that there is something to hide. People only speak in vague languages professionally when they dont want the public to really understand what they are doing.

Also, their executives drive luxury cars. I have worked at a charity for children once, and I remember that they had no heating in the office, and the sink was badly in need of fixing. This was because the charity director was determined that as much of the donation money as possible was to be used for the intended recipients of the charity (children living in poverty).

Noone drove luxury cars. Noone had an "Executive Income$$$$". It meant that I was wearing my winter coat inside the office, but I was impressed by the integrity of the organisation.

I read about the large incomes of the Autism Speaks directors, and I think it speaks volumes about their priorities. Owners of charities should not drive expensive cars.

And the problem with gene manipulation in the case of lessening autism is...?

It is the prenatal testing that people are having a problem with. Ie, if those tests were around when we were conceived, we would possibly not be here, posting.

We would not exist. Considering the fact that is easier to pinpoint and abort foetuses who have undesirable genes, than to manipulate existing genes, it seems as if that is what could be happening at some point in the future.

They are already aborting Downs Syndrome babies, they are not removing the 47th chromosome, they are straight out terminating those pregnancies.

Some people may say "Oh well, I am an Aspie, it will be the HFA or LFA people being aborted, not me." But think again, if Designer Babies become the way of the future, and people are faced with having an Aspergers child, they may well decide to choose instead in favour of the NT child.

So I guess we are lucky to be born in the 20th century, as at least we get a shot at life without someone deciding that they dont want anyone in their family who isnt normal.

Anyway I have said my piece. That is all I will be writing here on this topic. But it is important that I said what was on my mind.
