It keeps telling me that they have to be <16kb, but I can't get them that low on GIF

Yeah, I had that problem with CockneyRebel's Avatar. If it's animated, you're screwed, as you can only shrink the filesize by changing the format (most likely to JPEG), unless you shrink the actual image. Also, as a precaution, make sure it's 140x140 pixels or under.

The pictures I want to upload are still pictures taken with my digital camera. The pixtels number is what's keeping them from uploading.

Alot of image viewing software cane resize images.
