Hey hey Mr. or Ms. Moderator :)
I'm going to claim that this falls into a "philosophy of life" category, lol. I just finished scanning over forum topics again, and as I recalled, there isn't a forum for arts, crafts, recreation, hobbies. You have the "big" topics like art and music, which feels like a more college educated field. You also have Games and Video games, which is really just video games as near as I could tell or RPG's or what have you. But I can tell you that I just nearly hate video games and they compare insignificantly as a true hobby whereas you can be creative, recycle in arts, build things, etc. I say this because my hubby and I once got so caught up in life, responsibility, bills, burdens, raising children, etc., that we realized our stress levels were out of this world, and we turned to hobbies. He does modeling and yes video games, lol. I do what I consider to be more "real" things that can improve home and life such as painting with acrylics, I created a pom-pen, gardening (i'm so excited for spring already), house decorating (i'm poor so I have to be thrifty and make due slowly over time), reading, exercise, etc. These things don't really fit in the video game category, BUT they do help me and many others find a therapeutic release and relax....and next thing you know, you've gone from stressed to singing or humming in the yard planting flowers or around the house crafting, lol. I would like to see a hobby thread. Do you think it's in the cards possibly?
Thanks so much for listening/reading ![]()

i haven't thought of the arts/music/writing forum as "college educated"...i don't think that was the intent. if a general hobby thread doesn't fir there then random discussion will be just fine. ![]()

yeah, but it was the art music lit was just an example. it still doesn't work for arts/crafts/hobbies. they are just not exactly the same. like a square is geometrical but geometry isn't about squares. art/music/lit fits as arts/crafts/hobbies but not vice-versa lol. I would never post about knitting in art/music/lit,
(not that I knit....just another example ![]()
Thank you so much for asking. Little moves sometimes make a big difference and are much appreciated. I would say a simply name change to "games and hobbies" that would invite a larger variety of pasttimes. But that gaming forum seems to be very active. Thus, I think it might be better to simply add another category for "crafts and hobbies." I do worry that I might be one of the few interested, but I also think I might be surprised by the result. It would just be a simple trial and error. If such a category did better than the least active topic after a month, then that would be a good start. Again, thanks for your attention to my post
How about starting your own website?

Maybe that's a case of aspie bias: we miss the critical rôle of status and hierarchy pervading a neurotypical's worldview. Art is just art to us, but "college-educated" art is probably to them something very different from art without such an association.

oh please! like I have that much energy, lol....and I may share my opinions quite frankly and honestly, but I doubt I would want to handle the headache of my own website
Alex spent a lot of time and effort making it as good as it is, in spite of a few bugs and glitches.

very astute aspie observation! though, "college educated" was a quick term. I could have said "disciplined" or mentioned the years of professional study I tend to associate with music and writing especially. Even though I know there are always novices, I do think of most of those people as highly focused or having studied for years. For instance, anyone "can" write and most people "do" write from time to time, but to call oneself a writer makes me immediately think of someone who has been to college for a degree.

I don’t really need your insults nor is it appreciated. I tried to make light of the insult you tried to subtly mask the first time, but you keep on attacking. So are you saying that no one has the right to contribute to society or public ever? We should all just take whatever is handed to us no questions asked? I hardly think that is fair or correct. I think sharing is what helps society in progress, and most websites welcome feedback. Furthermore, sharing thoughts does not show a lack of appreciation. I doubt anyone would be on this site if they didn’t appreciate it. No one has criticized the design. You invented that scenario. Bullying and attempting to shut people down is highly rude and usually the offense is caused by fear or jealousy. And kissing up to people with power while trying to push others away isn’t right either. I’m sure Alex can handle things on his own and probably with kindness and sophistication. So whereas u say “how about accepting what this website has to offer,” my counter-advice is “how about not attacking people and being more kind.”
Yes! I know exactly what you mean.
I would like to share my "projects" but they're not exactly art.
I've always wondered why there isn't a static Special Interests category on WP.
You'd think that'd be a no-brainer on a forum for Aspies.

I love it! Thank you. I was starting to think I was the only one, lol.
btw...what kind of projects? my interest is piqued!

I've done practically everything in the name of continuing my sanity.
Lots of recycled and 'found object' craft, paper craft, painting, weaving, macrame, crochet, quilting, jewellery making, woodworking, fabric craft etc, etc - you name it - I've probably done it.
I think a Special Interests subforum would be a great place for people to showcase and talk about whatever they're into that doesn't fall into the stereotypically Aspie computer/science/maths/video games category.
Threads on the topic of special interests are made often enough that it would warrant it's own space.
