While I'm here - everyone, please don't make any reports about this issue or PM moderators about it - we're well aware of what's happened (well aware!) and steps are being taken to fix the issue.

Yeah will you let us know when it's safe please. I'm posting under an assumed username as I don't want my usual account to be compromised whilst all this is going on. I'm not doing this out of maliciousness and if any mod wants to know who I am then please pm me for details as I'm not going to divulge this information in public.

I made this account this morning as I couldn't get into the site under my other username.

As soon as this issue is solved I will happily abandon this account.

I go away for a few days as things IRL needed dealing with and I miss all the excitement -Boo I say Booooo

I dunno, look at it this way, it saved you from the excitement causing sensory overload which then led to a meltdown.

Ferret, it wasn't that exciting. Quite annoying, really. Suddenly we were all logged out, and all links only referred back to the main page, then "God" appeared for a hot minute, then disappeared, and now we're "back to normal", so it seems. The CSS is still borked, though.

I took the site down out of an abundance of caution. I wasn't sure if it was a real hack or just an an inside job from one or more moderators. Fortunately looks like it's just the latter. Although in some ways that's even worse because it's a violation of trust. I will continue investigating though before I can say for certain.

Moderators and (Alex?) please suggest site wide that users change their passwords. Seems there really was a data breach. Thank you.

What users need to do is to change their password everywhere EXCEPT Wrong Planet, if they are using the same password on WP and other sites.

Not much point in changing your password here on WP, as long as the hacker still has access to the WP password file or database table.

And apparently this problem has NOT yet been resolved here on WP. See this thread containing fake posts from various users.

How would they do that? They have all had their accounts taken over.

If there was another forum then maybe they could post advice there.
