I've just noticed that some topics get 'locked'. I know a moderator usually does that, but I none have stood out to me on the board.

Who are the moderators on WP?
Why do threads get locked?

I just wanna know the criteria so I don't misstep.

Beats me. Some are locked because it turns into a flame war, but sometimes a thread is locked for no apparent reason.

You can tell who is a moderator because it says 'moderator' underneath their user name. The most obvious cause for shutting down a thread is when someone is saying something to provoke other people on purpose (sometimes trolling), when people are using personal attacks and any thread saying something like: Do you think that ________ is cool (insert a user). These go against WPs rules. It's worth reading through them if you are worried, even I have made a couple of minor mistakes!

I don't know who all the mods are, but threads are usually locked due to violation of rules, or when they become verbal arguments and attacks. The OP or anyone else can request that a thread be locked.

Yes, the mods are identified below their user names, and a thread where I had posted recently got locked because of a rule violation ... and that means I need to go back and read those rules again! I had first actually tried to distract the tone of the thread, but I should have just stayed away and let the mods attend the matter.

lol thx. Its a good thing I'm American and don't know what that means. :nerdy:

anyway chief___'s posts were locked because he was a troll trying to get a rise out of people (he's been posting the same thread over and over again and I don't know why he wasn't blocked sooner).

Yeah, I would have to agree with Lee.

For the most part, it seems they are merely sticking to the rules. That's just my opinion though.

It would be wise to not look that one up...

Urban dictionary has been such a great help for me. Though, some things, I could have gone without knowing their meanings!

As for the OP, there is frustration with moderators on every site. In truth, they do what they have to do to keep the majority happy, and provide a safe environment for posting.

I will save you all the trouble of looking it up and give you a definition of "twat" myself:

"A derogatory term for a person whoose behaviour is considered to be extremely or intolerably ignorant, obnoxious, offensive or moronic."

8)

I apologize for not making it clear that I actually was being sarcastic.
