I think a mobile-friendly website would make it a lot easier to access WP on phones and tablets (seeing as I tend to have my phone on me more often than my computer).

Who agrees?

I agree... :) Mostly because I often find myself wanting to post something on the move when my laptop is at home...

It's very unlikely to be possible to add that functionality to the site as it stands, but later versions of the forum software (to which WP will eventually be upgraded) make it much easier to provide but as far as I know, no decisions have been made one way or the other.
So, "maybe soon" is the best bet so far.

Having support for mobile devices wouldn't affect the way WP is seen on desktop devices, and in any case a device is still able to use the desktop version or the mobile version: nothing's forced.

PS: site suggestions are best posted here: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt177688.html

Oh it works perfectly well - but the layout of the panels and menus is really designed for a desktop screen: it's too wide for a mobile, for one thing, which results in much scrolling around the screen to get at the various parts.

Works perfectly fine on my Blackberry.

But I still personally would think a mobile version would work fine.
Not too sure if a mobile version would be available for this forum software since?

However, not sure if duda mobile would work for WP?

I would love to see support for the Tapatalk forum app which is available on both Android and iPhone... There are a few forum software that support it natively, but if the WP software doesn't maybe it could be hacked in?

Not the current version, unfortunately - it's far too old.

Still in the no-mobile-version camp, but playing devil's advocate...
Any version of WP aimed at a specific device type would probably be accessed by a small extension to the existing URL - some sites do this by prefixing "m." to the start of the URL, so: m.wrongplanet.net while others may append something, like: wrongplanet.net/mob so usage of any device-related tweaks remains entirely optional, with the "unmolested" layout always being available as wrongplanet.net

Aside from layout considerations and allowing the easier implementation of controls more suited to touch-screen devices, mobile or tablet-specific versions of websites tend to use a much "lighter" design style to minimize the download burden on the remote device. Mobile data rates are expensive compared to typical land-locked accounts and the speeds are also considerably slower.

Well, its an Iphone. Thats to be expected.

But the website works fine for my tablet as well as my phone. The screenshot above seems to be of Opera browser? But anyhoo... I'd enjoy it if the menu's where touch screen friendly. You can't really mouse over and click to go to the forums on a touch device. You have to go to the main page and click on a recent post then work backwards to the main directory.

Besides that I notice the share buttons have become quite irritating and I accidentally share my posts with my facebook (or used to anyways). But with the new share buttons being so close to the places I need to click I sometimes hit them and get sidetracked.

But I'm guessing accidentally clicking drives revenue, so... I suppose I don't really blame the owner.

Here, Lemme be the first to call bull on this.

<link rel="alternative stylesheet" href="mobile.css" type="text/css">

All you really need is a new stylesheet defining the widths, and you are right to go.

Unless I have missed something here..
