You might not want to hear this but I have to say it. I haven't been here for about six months. The last time was the anniversary of Mom's death and I was out of my mind. No excuse, I know. I didn't know I was talking to mods. I would never argue with a mod, I would just agree and shut up. But I went on.

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postxf44389-0-30.html

Then somebody (a mod?) swooped into the discussion and, with a vigor that astonished me, said "This is a PUBLIC FORUM. Not your private diary. ... Seems pretty damned simple to me."

The contempt, disdain and derision of that went through me like a knife. I stared at it for a long time. Something kind of broke inside me, and I've avoided WP since then. Until that night, I'd spent about 5 hours a day here.

The accusation implicit in such a statement puts it on a par with name calling. The word "damned" is a cuss word. I'm saying this now because I should have said it then.

I'm sure you'll find a lot has changed in 6 months.

Actually on WP, a lot changes on a daily basis.

Welcome back - please don't be put off by previous experience here.

Hi,

I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience. Complaints about other members or mods should be made privately (to clarify--the comment was not made by a moderator). Please see the Moderator Attention thread. :)

I am going to PM you regarding the incident.

I don't know the history here, but why the heck wouldn't you argue with a mod? Sure, it rhymes with god, but the similarties kinda fuzz out after that.

Actually, that has been something I've been wondering about... Why don't mods have a separate rank? There should be a secondary rank, in addition to the custom rank, for a mod. Otherwise, makes it seem the mods are lurking around waiting for someone to step out of line, and makes it too easy for confusion, both for not knowing someone is a mod, or for someone to imply they are. I believe there is a phpBB modification already written to do this.

That's IT. :x You shall be drawn, quartered, and pasted back together with bits of grape jelly.

On a serious note, what's bad about the illusion that the mods may be watching you at any moment?

Personally I don't feel like the 'mods' are out patrolling the grounds salivating at the prospect of catching a 'non-mod' crossing the line.

The mods here are members just like the rest of us... well.. most of the time. The rest of the time I don't notice them because they're lurking in the shadows, biding their time until just the right momen.........................................................

The mods are a bunch of power hungry, twisted individuals.

Just like the rest of us :D.

And there's a mod or two I wouldn't mind being salivated by

Actually I generally like the idea that the moderators are around and can make sure I don't screw up thing too badly.

It's a little sad when an interesting post gets locked - but there's usually a good reason.
