Currently, we're testing different ad placements to see which is the most effective. As a result, you will be seeing more than usual. Once we find the perfect spot for ads, there will only be one ad, and it won't be intrusive.

Please remember that the growth of our site is making it more expensive to run so we need some form of advertisement.

I stand by what I said when I said the member list looks stupid where you put it.

Decreases the usability of the site tenfold.

The member list is eventually going to go at the bottom and all be comma delimited.

What specifically would you like? Should I move the member list above the ads or should I do something else? Also, which ads specifically are intrusive? As I said, I'm only doing this as an experiment!

I don't like the member list being seperated from the menu like that, it's annoying. It's content dotted all over the place, and ads dotted all over the place.

The page I'm looking at right now look fine. I understand that somebody has to pay for the bandwidth, better circuit city than me. Now if we hear that Alex just bought himself a new Ferrari, there might be a problem.

Great site Alex.

i have my own issues about circuit city - they were able to take advantage of me because i am gullible. my problem with ads is that they blink at me, which is very distracting and why i no longer use hotmail or msn. i sould like to see the member list a little higher, but this is not an effective selling tool - anyone who wanted to advertise on the site would not like it and that would create worse problems than my having to scroll down. so i think i will withdraw my complaint about that until i am independently wealthy and can support the sire myself.
i also did (and have been doing a little research. the ads are only on the forum page. i think that is a good idea, actually. i think more people use chat than the forums at times and if its going to be somewhere, better there than on the home page.
i do think that you should include somewhere near the ads a disclaimer that wp does not endorse the advertisers. that provides a degree of separation i think would be good for people like me who might think that wp is suggesting that i patronize the advertisers.
on the other hand, other than my most recent experience, circuit city has been better than most of the other tech stores i have been to. they are generally more attentive and will ing to answer questions. my worst experience was trying to buy an import notebook from best buy and having the computer salesman look at me in confusion when i tried to discuss the specs.
having said all that, i wonder if circuit city would consider raising awareness among their staff of the needs of people with autism spectrum dosorders. that would impress me.

Bottom line: i rescind my complaint, disclaimer would help, and how about a button that takes one to the member list and back from the member list to the menu? that i think would solve the problem without offending the advertisers. and if the home page is left free of advertising i think that would be good for people just discovering the site.

intrusive are ads that blink at you.

also the ads that are gimmicks.

for example; your missing data click here.

if i had just uploaded or submitted anything and i saw that ad and for a brief second demonstrated neuroman's gullability (is it a word) i might click on it, thinking i forgot to put a title or something.

i cannot live with the lies. then again, i have not earned the right to comment, i am still green, with a yellow belly.

nevermind.
i'm a blue jay.

i may speak freely.

no blinking, no lies, and take them for all the dough you can.

this sight is great, like it was made just for me.

I agree with hale bopp, the online member list shouldn't be where it is... I think it should be above the ads... the ads should be below everything at the bottom or something so that all of the stuff is in order.

OK, its official. prolonged exposure to blinking ads results in stimming...

Is WP responsible for something from tribalfusion that wants to open itself up in WP or am I way overdue for a spyware/adware scan? That thing is really pissing me off. :x

I've told tribal fusion not to show flashing or "warning" ads so that'll help with the stim/annoying part of it. Please remember that this is just a test. WrongPlanet will not end up having all the ads.

Well, if anyone wants to blacklist the popup's address on their computer it's a.tribalfusion.com . I added it to my restricted sites. The only side effect is that WP has to try and load two or occasionally three times. I'm on DSL so the speed difference is negligable.

Alex, there are some intrusive popups as well, but as i use firefox, 98% of them are filtered, though the ones that do get through are relatively annoying

can you do something about that please
