This just in: Comedian/actor David Spade has announced that he will be changing his surname to "Garden-Implement."

He could always become more promiscuous and change his name to David Rake. Or, start charging for his services and become David Hoe. 8)

Or change it to David Racist

The problem is, when people are called racist, they are less willing to listen and be educated because they feel assaulted.

I find it better to just disagree with them and explain why without using the word racist. People will actually listen just as long as you aren't calling it racist. And there will always be people out there who will never open their mind to it and just continue living in a world of ignorance

I also think there are racist comments people can make without actually being racist because of their unaware of dog whistles or unaware of the problem.

Perhaps we can all work on the definition of the word than seeing it as an accusatory term. It's human nature to get defensive when we feel we are being accused.

You got it exactly! This is what I call experiential invalidation. Nobody likes it. In the minds of many conservatives the definition or racism is the KKK burning crosses and skinheads. Very few people are like this. Some are like this and then they change and grow. Calling them names only entrenches them in their views.

My view is that we are all racist... It does not matter who you are, It is what we are raised in. It is something we ALL need to work with. If I call another person "racist" I am not dealing with or owning my own racism.

Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves what the goal is when we say something about someone. Will it advance the conversation or is it a counterproductive way we are making ourselves feel good or superior?

Calling people names to make ourselves feel superior is "Hat Sh*tting".

This is how you educate people:

As people on the spectrum, we have constant experiential invalidation. This hurts more than anything. I honestly do not even like the terms aspie or NT simply because they are reductive in nature. Aspies are all types and so are NTs.
